SATURIJAS MORNING
_ -
Investigation of a Supposed Murder—The Charge
Shown to be Unfounded.—Ou the 20th of Janwiry ,
man named Henry Jack, residing with his brother
in-law, a Mr. Hughes, on Pike street, in the Fifth
Ward. died of consumption. None of the neighbors
presumed at the time that he haul been any thing but
fairly dealt with, but a brother living in Philadel
phia, who had been sent for by the deceased a short
time previous 4o his death, became possessed of the
belief, from circumstances which appear below, that
he had not died a natural death. In this opinion,
be yesterday called at the Mayor's Office, and made
the following deposition:
William Jack, of the city of Philadelphia, being
duly sworn (loth depose and say, that on or about the
19th of January last, the deponent received a letter
from Pittsburgh, dated two days previously, appri
sing this deponent of the serious illness of his
brother, Henry Jack, upon which information de
ponent-proceeded to Pittsburgh, and arrived there on
the 20th of the same month, and found his said
brother dead and about to be carried to the grave:
that on deponent's arrival, the body was removed
from the hearse to the house of Mr. Hughes, where
deceased bad lived and died, as the &Ironton, he
lieges, and the coffin opened. This deponent fdl-ther
states that a number of extraordinary circumstances
have combined to fix on deponent's mind a strong
stispieion that the said brother had not died a natu
ral death, but was put to death by violence. by •some
person or persons unknown to this deponent. Some
of these circumstances were these:—there were
marks, as of finger prints, around the nose ; the eyes
elogely shut, and other appearances indicating to the
mind of deponent tbat said deceased had been suffo
cated while sleeping : that no permit or physicians
certificate had been procured for the burial. De
ponent further says that from consideration of the
unusual and extraordinary circumstances, mentioned
and referred to, this deponent has reason to suspect
that his said brother was forcibly and feloniously de
prived of life, by sonic person or persons to the de
ponent unknown, and further sayeth not.
Deputy District Attorney M. I. Stewart tits sp
prised of this deposition, and under his direction, at
investigation was had before Mayor Bingham.
A number of witnesses who resided in the neigh
Lorhood where the decesuemi died, aud hail been aci
ynainted with him, were examined. Tho following
is the evidenee elicited

TRIELTY-FOURTH CONGRESS
VIEST SESSION.
WAltalgetON CITY', March 6.—Senntr.—The Senate
was not in session, haring yesterday adjourned un
til Monday.
Ilonac—Tbe House renewed the examination of
report of the Committee on Elections.
Mr. Oliver, of Missouri, addressed the House at
length in opposition to empowering the Committee to
send for persons and papers in tho'Kansas case. Re
maintained that on the head of Mr. Reeder and oth
ers who had joined in the extraordinary movements
for getting up Emigrant Aid Societies, and procuring
Sharpe's rifles, rested the responsibility of all the
strife and blood shod in Kansas, their sole object be
ing toMefeat what they termed the infamous Kansas.
Nebraska bill. These things wore calculated justly
to excite the indignation of the people 'of Missouri
and Kansas Territory. Mr. Oliver indignantly re
pelled the term of "Border Ruffians," as applied to
patriots, conscious of their rights, and with nerve
enough to maintain them.
Mr. Oliver did not know any Missourian= who vo
ted in Kansas; he had witnessed hundreds of eastern
men returning front the territory who hail raid they
had seen - the elephant : filled their contrail to vote
and were going home. To authorise n Committee
to
send for persons and papers, would lie to give cone to
nanee to r evolution and defiance to laver Ile trusted that
the House would refuse this request• made at the in
tan re of the man Reeder, who has smeared
hands with the blood of his butottered fellow-citi
lens: and is the foundation of treason which eels
needs the overt net to justify his being hanged as
high as Haman.
Mr. Cumbark, of Indiana, admitted as el - tarred by
Mr. Oliver. the design of the Emigrant Aid
ties ',MS to make Kansas a free State ; the doctriue
pronounced by Northern Democrats and the object
of the Kansas Nehraska net wits not only to mast ,
these territories free, but to es t a blish it

or intention to go to Kansas until he sow the ntYdlt
made to form: slat ere there. Ile submit hot to :Messrs.

subject h a s it rime to this that we must ask them
how man) men shall go to Kansas in order to heetitt,

A 11,11ander's Tritimony.—Jaccib Rinakee, living in the
Holland settlement of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, days "After
suffering for some time the misery attending an utter mere
patina of mind and body, I have -bean 'restored, by, using
ruierlinve's Holland Bitters, to perfect health.".
--
The fact of this remedy being in truch-high repute among
the Hollanders in Wisconsin, Michigan, New York—in fact,
in every Holland settlement in the Alpitol States--argues
much in its favor.
STRENGTH AND HEALTH RESTORED.
Mr. John Davidson, living ten miles above Pittsburgh, on
the Pennsylvania Canal, says: "When I commenced taking
Boerhaves Holland Bitters, I could hardly walk—now, I
enjoy excellent health."
IVEAKNESS OF THE STOMACH AND INDIGESTION.
Another Great Cure Efficted by Beeihnee's HAWN/
—The wife of Peter De Witte, brim , in Holland Town, She
boygan county, Wisconsin, .altered much from weakness of
the stomach and indigestion. She had been under a physi

even his skill. She purer suet some Holland Bitters at our
office, which has given tone to her stomach, her appetite and
strength are returning, and we tirmly believe that this is
another great cure effected by your medicine.
We have still to record many 'wonderful cures effected by
this remedy, but most wait another opportunity. One thing
you CAD rely upon, what we have published are from persons
much respected in our community, and are literally tree.
