LOCAL AFFAIRS. THURSDAY NVORNING 7 A Western Pante' Literary Associatiou.—A meet ing of the Steamboat Pilots, now in port, WWI held yesterday afternoon, on hoard the steamer, I'. S. Mail, at which the following preamble and resuln- Cons were adopted : Whereas. Owing to causes of complaints coming from Pilots navigating the Western waters, and liv ing eut of the city of Cincinnati, and believing it to be for our own benefit, as well as for the benefit of the Steam Boat Owners connected with us, to form ourselves into a Literary Society, for the purpose of eliciting a full and free interchange of opinions on all matters connected with the navigation of the Wes tern waters, to promote a general good feeling, and to act in good faith towards each other. And in order to more fully accomplish this object, we cheerfully invite all Pilots living in or out of Cin cinnati to join with us in establishing a Library and Reading Room, to be located in Cincinnati, for the purposes above named. It is evident that shonld the acme state of things continue that has existed for the time past, it will have a tendency to demoralize and lower us in the estimation of the mercantile commit. nity. It is time that we cease to destroy each other, (which our previous course has been so well calcula ted to effect,) and to endeavor to regain that position to which we are so justly entitled. In view of the foregoing, be it Resolved, That we, the undersigned , will form ourselves into a Society for the purposes above named, and will use all honorable means to sustain the integrity and moral hearing of the same. Resolreei, That no other guarantee shall be re quired fur full compliance with the following Rules, than our signatures., which shall be considered an in dex to our honor. Resoired, That the name and stjle of this Associ ation shall be " The li'pe ern l'itofe . I,f treary A saw,. - rim, and shall be composed of all Pilots, Captains, and Owners, interested in the navigation of the Nl-es tern waters, wishing to become members. I?eenlred, That a book be kept for the purpose of entering thoeri e, notices of all obstrnetions to navi gation, changes of channel, stages of water through the difficult places, and any other information thought beneficial to the Association. Also, that any member knowing of any obstrue tisllS, changes, or other information for the purposes above named, n hall 1,0 expected to record the RAMC, in the book kept for that purpose. as soon after en tering port as practicable. Reeolred That it hook shall be kept for Pilots be longing to the Association I and ready for service. , to enter their names in. so that any Captain wanting a Pilot may. by going to the Associations Boom, find what Pilots are in port, and can he relied on to go when called for. A Case of Eight Months' St4nding (hind tv...iloeshort, Mi. /and Bibs .— Michael Kelly, No. 117 Grant, near Smithfield street, says: "Last July, while running on the river, on a cotton boat plying between Natchez and New Orleans,l was taken with fever and ague. For eight long months I suffered with this dreadful disease. The greater part of this Waal was unable to work, and spent at least filly dollars for dif ferent medicines, but I found no permanent relief. Three weeks ago, one of my friends insisted upon my trying Boers have's Holland Bitters, saying that a cure Was guaranteed. After taking it for one week, I must state I was a sound man. I have been at work now for two weeks, and have returnhad no tnrn of the eh and fever whatever." c I certify the above statement Is true. Tweaks !omits, Diamond Howe, Or at R. Chester's, Gothic Hall.
