WEDNESDAY MORNING FEBRUARY 27 Requisition for a Supposed Murderer.—On the morning of the 24th of October last, a man named James S. Murdock, who had been an employee on the Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad, was found in a dying condition on Prospect street, near the basin. Ho was too much exhausted to rive an explanation of the cause of his injuries, and died shortly after. The Coroner hold an inquest on the body, but as no information could be produced to the contrary, the jury supposed his death was caused by intemperance and exposure, and returned a verdict to that effecL Subsequeuft however, suspicion began to bo enter tained that foul play had been praCticed, and officer Richardson (then High Constable) set to work to trace out the parties. He first ascertained that a cer tain individual of not very good character, who is now in the Penitentiary, had been seen about the place where Murdock was found, the night previous. Ho wont to this man, who, after some conversation, voluntarily informed him that Murdock had nut died from exposure, but had been murdered and robbed by a person named Thomas M'Donabl. After difficulty. officer Richardson learned that this man M'Donald was at Lockport, lowa. A requisition for him was procured from Governor Pollock, and a few days ago Mr. Richardson left for that place to make the arrest. lie will probably be back in a few days with his prisoner, when the whole affair will be fully in vestigated. If it should turn out that a murder has been committed. it will be another illustration of the truth of the proverb that " murder will out." Opening the Rl'ver.—A large number of men were employed, yesterday, on the Monongahela, preparing for the expected break up iu the river. A channel three or four feet wide has been cut along the rear of the steamers, from the bridge to the Point, and will doubtless shield the boats, in a great measure, from the effects of the descending ice, is hen it commences to move off. In addition to this, the solid ice in which the steamers have been imbedded so long, has been rut away front a good many, and men wore in. dustriously engaged releasing others. The ire. where it has been rut through, is about a foot thick. The riser is steadily rising, but as yet has had no effect on the ice. The boatmen appear to be all on the alert, and no one seems to fear, in the slightest de gree, any such disaster as has just occurred at Cincinnati. Prince of Magicians opened his popular exhibitions in this city, at Masonic Haft on Monday night, to a large audience, who were in finitely delighted with hit dexter , us and arnasing tricks. Various totting mid sowing machines have been invented for about Shingles, tint it is a well known fact that Shin gles cut or alwed across the grain are quite too dintsy for rooting purposes. Numerous inventions have recently pram for riving and shaving, and these have all tarn con demned as worthless. from their imperfect method of riving, which con.AistB of splitting from the side of the block but one shingle, which almost invariably runs off. This difficulty is entirely obviated by KENDALL'S MACHINE, - - _ Which first splits from the side of the block a piece thick enough for two shingles, which is separated in tha centre, and by mans of elas-tic guides each part Is conducted through IL pair of approximating knives, which completes the operation; thus producing two shingles at every revolu tion. This nnwhine will rice and shave from the bloclt three thousand shingles per hour, of unlforni thickness and taper, bllperior in utility and durability to those made by hand or ace other process. Its operations are by no means confined to pine and other soft wood, Wit works to equal advantage, oak, walnut, and every (din, description of timber that can be split.
