W ASH INA.; TUN, February 22.—The Supreme Court will:adjourn on the 2 tb ini t., and re-asorn ble on the Ist of April. About seventy causes have been disposed of at the present term, and there are one hundred and twenty odd remaining on the docket. The opinion in the case involving the constitutionality of the Missouri compromise will not be rendered till the April session. There is some reason to expect a more favorable judge ment than was at first anticipated, the weight of authority being decidedly in favor of the freodom of the colored plaintiff. Intelligence was received by the Government this morning, containing assurances that the border counties of Missouri would acquiesce in the present state of things in Kansas, and make DO aggressive movement. The President in structed Governor Shannon heirs leaving to visit these counties personally, and say if any invasion was attempted, it would be resisted by all the power he could command. Also to say to the people of Kansas that the same authority would be exerted if any insurrectionary demon strations occurred. If the Topeka Convention assembles, civil process will be sued out against the Governor and other officers, on the ground that by the territorial law they aro assuming functions to which they have not been legally elected or appointed. The same law prevails in most of the States. No military force will be employed unless the civil process shall be resisted. Instructions from the Republican loaders have boon sent ont,by a specialpmessenttor, who started on Wednesday night to the members of the To peka Convention, that they ought merely to or ganize and adjourn, so as to be prepared for other movements hereafter. With these precautions on both sides no collision is now apprehended An After-Diniier Episode. From tii. Cincinnati Grimmorcial, As the National Guards, of St. Louis; were dining at the Burnet House, yesterday, among other toasts the health of Miss heron was pro posed, and responded to with three hearty cheers. One of the party then cried " God bless her," and three more cheers were given with a right good will. The company shortly afterwards pro ceeded to the ladies parlor, and sent for Miss Heron. As she made her appearance, they divided into two lines, and Miss Heron passed through them, shaking hands with each as site passed. Cincinnati is the place where Longworth'e sparkling Catawba is manufactured in such large ~uantities .- _ ' .` 4. 1`,/ THE BRITISH PERIODICALS • FIRMER'S GUIDE.
