Supreme Court will huh], by a consider able majority, that the act of Congress of ISil, es tablishing the Wheeling Bridge us a Post b., oft% which was intended to annul the former decrio• the Court against the Bridge, is constitutional, i.n.! the Bridge a legal structure. The case Caine ul. , m an action of contempt against the Bridge Company, for refusing to execute the first decision, and this law was pleaded in justification, which is now sus tained. In a pending cause, indirectly involving the con stitutionality of the Missouri Compromise, a ma jority of the Court will refuse to allow the benefits of that act to the colored plaintiff claiming freedom en der it, but will perhaps extenuate the denial upon the ground that he voluntary returned to bondage. It was expected that the Court would stand five to four on this subject, but rumor speaks of Judge Grier xis inclining to the Southern side, which would make the Court stand six to three. There will probably be strong dissenting opinions. The decree will he made in a fortnight. INSURANCE Dncisios.—The Newburgh N. Y. Telegraph reports the trial at the recent Circuit in Orange county of Franklin Townsend and Theodore Townsend against The North Western Insurance Company—an notion to recover upon Policy of Insurance effected on the plaintiff's interest in the Cornwall Factory, which was de stroyed by fire. The principal question involved was the right of the plaintiffs to make repairs. The Court decided that ordinary and necea , ary repairs might be made, if done in a seasonable and proper manner. The case has been fought stoutly by the defendants, this being the see-nd t r ial of the same. Verdict for plaintiff's 36,,,7e VOLUME XIV. TOM CROSBY'S DEED OF MAGIC. —isn't this nice? Mrs. Crosby, ns soon as she could collect her senses, began to think she had onjy been dream ing, but when she heard Tom and Willie talking about the new school, and saw how the dust had collected about the windows, she feared it was, after all, a reality. But by and by, she heard a hell ring, and when she found that it was really Sunday she knew that her past experience had been a substantial thing of real life, for it was on Wednesday that she had hut seen the magic stone. And then hor headache and other bodily pain yet remained to admonish her of the ini:4.ery ehe had suffered. It was over two years before Mrs. Crosby dis covered the secret of that three days' experience she had had in 'high life." and even then dis covered it by accidentally overhearing a conver sation between her husband and Mr. Newton. Until then she had firmly believed that she owed the experience to a deed of magic. She now realized the many blessings she enjoyed, and no more gave way to discontent. uttered Tom, THE BRITISH PERIODICALS FARMER'S GUIDE. GREAT REDUCTION IN TILE PRIC'E L.
