Trial of Hugh Corrigan for the murder - of
Wife.—Hugh Corrigan, the Irishman who has been I
lying in Jail hero since the first of October, awaiting
trial for the murder of his wife, near Binirsvilles . ""
taken out to Greensburg, on Wednesday, and placed
upon trial. The evidence upon which the Common
wealth rely to convict him is entirely circumstantial,
and it will require great effort on their part to prove
the offence. We published the particulars of the
murder as the Limo of the occurrence, and will prob
ably be recollected by our mitten. Glis wife was
missed on the 30th September, and the neighbors in
searching about his farm, discovered in a ravine, a
fire in which human hones and flesh were burning.
Marks of blood were also seen in various places
about his house and farm ; and in the ashes of the
fire were found buttons, Ac., corresponding to those
she wore on her dress. The lesliinotiy will proliably
bo quite v,datninous; as a large nutulwr of wit
nessos have been eubpu•ned; and the trial will oc-

The recent settlyttuent of the Meehan Indemnity
q uestion has imparted considerable vitality to the
New York market. A large amount of motley
which Inc heretofore boon locked up will now find
its way into business channels. The following is a
sketch of this Indemnity:
Simla Anna, before his flight from Mexico, isened
drafts for most of the $3,000,001) duo Mexico from
the United States under the late treaty, and a large
portion of these drafts were-purehasti.and hold by
citizens of the United States. After the flight of the
President, the new 'government of Mexico, thr,ogh
Lien. Almoner , . the resident minister, protested against
the payment of these drafts at Washington, and the
matter IlltS been the subject. of negotiation ever since
that date. It is uriderst(xsl that the Mexican author
ities offered to withdraw elm protest on the payment
of a bonus of $300,000, while the liulders of tie
drafts offered $150,000. The Journal of Ouroom,re,
says, "a compromise has at last been effected, and
notice of the unit draft, $656,000 to Messrs. (lowland

The other payments front the treasury have been
large. including $52.000 for redemption of the pub
