The money was taken from Stewart, signed by the watchman, Joseph Harbaugh, who made the arrest, and Mayor Voir, and deposited in the Mayor's office. On Wednesday, a woman named Mary Kelly, from Itl'Keespert, was taken into custody for passing bogus money, and on her person was found one of the $5 notes taken from Stewart, signed by both the Mayor and Ilarbaugh. It seems very sin gular that counterfeit money, after being in the bands of the police, should again get into circulation, and the circumstance needs explanation. The woman alleges that she received it from a railroad contractor, hut where he got it, or whether he had any more of the same kind, does not appear. That the note came from the Mayor's office is proven beyond doubt by the signatures, but why it was passed out from that establishment, where it should have been carefully kept until wanted in court, is a mystery that ought to be mode clear. Erentre. Lo Clwm and Lk Sara, of the tirm of ila ker, Do Costa end De Silvo, inventors of the tut proved double jet gas burners, are now in this city, with the view of introducing them. INVENTIONS AND PATENTS March klAciwis.—This new invention is highly appre do.ted, and some sales of rights have been made on good terms. Every one that sees the machine pronounces it one of the must ingenious inventions of the age, and one sure to finite the fortunes of those who engage in the business. The trade is u very large one, and has heretofore furnished profit ,ible employment to many arms in this country. With dila nen machine its profits can be doubled or trebled, and the amount of capital required to do a large business be very small. There are fortunes In it, and the people are evidently finding it out. A emnpany 13 forming, to be called the Allegheny County Hatch Company, to start the Minimss at once In this city Call at Eaton's, N. 80 Fourth street, and look at one of the neatest inventions of the age. TEEITIMONT.—The following letter from Oov. Johnston le good testimony- In behalf of Leeds' Furnaces and Heaters. They furnish far the best mode of heating dwellings, churches and other public buildings that is now In use, according to the opinion of tunny goal judges who have examined them. Here is Mr. JoilllSlOles PITTSBCROFI, December 27, 1855. MR. Moses F. EATON aflords me pleusure to be enabled to state, after a thorough trial of Mr. Jos. Leeds' tubular Furnace or Heater, that it fully answers the purpose of supplying my dwel ling with a pleasant and properly warmed air. I cheerfully recommend it. Yours, WM. F. JOHNSTON. Moons F. FATON—Sir: I urn a Plano manufacturer, and have lately used Hopper's Patent Bench Plane, and at your request I will state what I think of it. For planing veneers it Is the best thing in use, in fact the only kind of Plan,. that can be well toed for that purpose; and one man call plane Much veneering In one day with it as he could ...rape by the old meth.' in six days. It leaves, too, a much m• , re overt, smooth and solid surface than the scraper, and one that will absorb Ices varnish or paint. It is for all kinds of hoe wood work the best Plane 1 know of. It is so con structed that it takes up, and ran take up, but a very thin chip, and can be oafs' ag.mut the grain as well as any way. Thor makes it peculiarly valuable in pinning veneers. I shall never scrape any more veneers while this Plane can be obtained. It must come into general use, saving SO Innen Cline and doing such nice work as It does.
