PITTSBURGH POST.
MONDAY MORNING JANUARY 14
Sealionable Poetry
The following. from the Boston Atlas, describes
with laughable truthfulness the different sides
of
the cold question, as seen or felt by "A Dismal
Man," and by "A Young Lady :-"
THE SNOW
BY A DISMAL MAN
Fierce blasts, chill airs, like those of a coquette,
Canadian noses-blue, and frozen toes,
Sidewalks of glass, o'er which the. walker goes
Shambling along, in agoify's cold sweat;
Icelandic snow-drifts, into which you fall,
At suffocation's risk, and sadly feel
The fiend rheumatic through your vitals steal,
While furious drivers at your tinkering bawl ;
The basin's water all a mask of ice ;
Holes in your hoots, that ne'er had holes before
Expensive sieigh rides, called by school girls tiee
The jangling hell., the bank that tips you o'er !
And then to feel that folly, frost rind flaw
And but precursors of a splashy thaw
(.0!
ON 'l'll SAME rI'I.IECT
Dear! aunt it nit,' I. what a charming snow'
How sweet it falls, so leathery, null and white !
Scene of enchantment, fairy,lik'• 111111 bright'
And how the winds romantically bloc'
0, t enet we have a glorious dleigh ride now,
With lovely liens, the dearest little horde?
And Harry, he will go with me, of coin se,,
And we will gallop, ! I can't tell how !
We'll have the ride! Well hat, a splendid thine,
And supper, too, and some of that mulled wine•
And afterwards hi/ dear, deemed
As we c•ume back by moonlight so divine'
And then one pleasure I must on'er forget !
'Two:aid heavenly be, if we could just upset'
