After the oath had been taken, Mr. Bingham
marked that very unexpeetdolly and unsolicited

the duties of the office of Mayor. Ar he was Mu
entirely unacquainted with theqi duties, It would be
out of plato for him now to say what he will or wdat
he will not do during his administration. But lie
might be permitted to say that ho would elides or to
discharge, as far as knowledge enabled him and to
the beet of his ability, the duties devolving up-in
him. lie would be always pleased to co-operate with
the CouriOUP in the deliberations upon the best in
terests of our growing and prosperous city. lie
hoped those errors that he might elfillinit, for it ma,
human bi err, would be considered errors of the head
and not of the heart.
