GOOD PitusPecTs.—Over one hundred new Rub- RcriLers have been added to our weekly list in the first five days of this month and year, an average of twenty per day. Uur daily list is also incretti.iing encouragingly. People say they like our clear type, full commercial intelligence and interesting news (man all quarters. Our ad verti, ing, too, was never more liberal. Thankful for past favors, we still ask for " more. - Our lists should be doubled, and we hope they will be within a year. We are now receiving some rousing club Hots from the country. Some of them are double the number of last year and a r ...t many are new clubs. That gentleman is well in formed ou the subject, and presents most cogent reasons for the- speedy commencement of the work. . . The b..oks for sub.eription to the stock will be opened to-day at the Merchants' Exchange. They are also to be opened in several other cities. As Pittsburgh is more deeply, perhaps than any other city, interested in the work, she hhould net a good example of liberal subscriptions. Will our business men thank of it, and act. THE. TRAITORS AND THEIR WORK. The Venango grabber and W e stmoreland idiot, who came to thiii city n few years ago to sell out the Democratic party fur their own benefit, have at length Leen forced into a position where con cealment of their basene,s is no longer possible. They have come out openly against the nominee of the Democratic party, and in favor of a ilus curatab Whig. For more thou a year the editors of the rnion have urged the party to consent to be Fold that they might pocket the price. Em,on was their cry all the time. (Inc year ago they suc ceeded: and one of those corrupt political tra ders got the City Solicitorship. He incited a party of his faehtunable friends to a supper, leaving out the "common" folks from his imita tions. He next got hold of some money belong- ing to the city. awl immediately yrold , ll out ~t it titn year ralary iu 110iN 1111 Ce inaNing ruck ••coninion" fulks as wat.•hmen, eonstable ,, , stroet lieraperx, paviors. fic.. to go without their hard earned day wages fur months, 1 , 1 caus, there wax nu money in the city treasury to pay them The other editor wanted an advertisement from the Central Itailroml. That company saw no possible advantage in advertising in their dirty sheet s and refused it, except ut about one-third the price others gut. Alfred wanted to be so licitor of the company. slut a more competent and trustworthy man got the appointment. The editors of the "black mail" sheet then resolved on vengeance : so they published articles against the road from time to time: and just at the winding up of a County Convention, when half the members were gone, and the other half not hearing what was read amid the noise and con fusion of an mijournment, they got a resolution through denouncing the Central road. Not five members knew anything about it, or it would never have been passed. This, then, was the revenge for being refused au advertisement, ex cept at one-fourth price, and the solicitotrohip of the company. Such are the rogues that are now at open war against the Democratic nominee ; who is one of the soundest Democrats and best citizens of his native city working man—an honest man—a general favorite with the party, and with hundreds of friends and nut one enemy out of the party. And they oppose Mr. Irwin in the vain hope that a Muscovy Whig may hold office continually. Doubtless they arc well paid for this Lase betrayal of the Democratic party : and they will be re-paid with u wrath and scorn such as Benedict Arnold felt. The Union is now fairly out of the Democratic party, and is the organ of jobbers, grabbers, and white fingered, smell potato °dice seekers. on such a filthy guerilla sheet we can spend no W understand Mr. Long and his friend* have resolved that he will run at all event*. Mr. Irwin has nothiug to do with that matter. Ho is free from all pledges, and loaves his case to the decision of the people. Every man in the city has a right to run if he will: but the voters who don't want P K. N. elected should remember that lltWl!s;, and no one elm, can beat Bingham. JANUARY 7 THE WHOLE CASE IN BRIEF. The Post said it would support Samuel A. Long in preference to F. E. Volz, if we chid got no Democratic candidate to support. But we wanted a distinct candidate, and we have got one, and now support him with all our might.
