NEW HATES", CT., January 2.—A don* mur
der was yesterday committed near Woodbridge,
by Charles Sandford, an insane man, whose
nephew is one of the Wakemanites who was ar
rested on suspicion` of the &cent murder of
Matthews. Santiford's first victim was Enoch
Sperry, brother of D. N. Sperry, Secretary of
State. The maniac chopped off his head with an
axe while ho wnv riding home in a sleigh. The
second victim was Ichabod Urnberfield., a farner,
whom Sandford killed with an axe in his own
house. The murderer is now in prison, where
he is constantly muttering a senseless jargon of
prayers.
