PITTSBURGH POST.
SATURDAY MORNING
It will be recollected by the reader , of the Jeers
that a young man named Ilickoi was arrested in
St. Louis some days since, with a large eptatitity
of jewelry, supposed to have been stolen from
some jeweller in Chicago. The property was
subsequently claimed by Isaac Speer, Esq., jew

of his principal salesman, 11. P. Iligkoz, who had'
been with him for upwards of five years, and in

the Democratic party, and if this safe rule Had
been adopted upon this occasion, all diffieulty
would have 1ie(.171 avoided, and gentlemen could
hare separated in peace and good feeling. This
oa , tile course pursued lact winter, which se-
mired Mr. Votz the votes of many Democrats,
and which Temilted in the triumphant success of
that gentleman and the prostration of Know
N,thingisril in this city. But Mr. \'07.2 was not
hrn nominated by a Democratic convention, be
cause he was not a Democrat: he would not have
thanked um for so baptizing him, and it would
have been a fraul upon that worthy gentleman
an 1 the community to have gone so without his

The Democrats had no candidate of their own,
but enough of them voted for Mr. VOLZ to secure
his election.
Why, then, a departure now from the egab

residve.l upon neutrality, suffer each P,emocrat
to chooi , e for himself ".Was it because a respect
able number of delegates had been instructed by
their constituents to support a distinct democrat

without previous consultation with the Deinocrti

very gentlemen pack themselves, uninstructed,
into a Democratic Convention. Is this palpable

For the office of Mayor of Pittsburgh.
We need say nothing upon the question of Mr.
I itw IN'S democracy. nor of his Nerviceg to.our
cause• nor of his excellent character. He is ton
g•nerally !mown in this cotmunnity to require
our encomium. His experience in our municipal .
adairs, his iutelli, gence. firmness, iliBcretion and
courage eminently qualify him for the station for
which lie has been nominated. We invoke for
your xen.lons and undivided support.
