As to the resolutions, we have not time to say more of them now, but there is one of them re lating to the Railroad that we shall have ocea- Eien to ,peal; of rig-an. An intelligent business man residing in Michi gan, and connected with railroad and manufac turing business there. has had occasion to visit our city two or three time: lately, and he ex pressed his surprise at the ci ienceg of its we-alai, prosperity and growth. The extent ot it; manufactures. it, commercial and steamboat bu,lness, its sy,tem of railroads apprgachiLg completion, and the amount of population in what i+ really one city far exceed, Thl , 1 , 1,nt one of many in.tance , oc curr:ng annually of strangers c.ming hen, and being sliuwu about with some attention, who ex.- pre,s a similar surprise to find Pittsburgh a great and wealthy and thriving cite It i evi dent that Pittsburgh i. not as well known abroad as many other citie. of or less business and population. In the eour , e of a number of jour neys within a few years this fact has been fre quently apparent. Let any tine go to Albany, fur in-ance, and 'or that Pittsburgh contain, hundred thousand inhabitant-. he will be doubt ed. The cc:l,N C , ffitra.lict : he ran only explain and make good his it.sertion In showing that what is in fact but one city is nom inally divided into two Cities find eight borough , It would unduubteZy be a great benefit to the city to Lase the extent bt it , population, wealth and business more correctly appreciated abroad. It would induce capital, manufacturing enter pH,' and population to corns this way fur in vestment and employment : and it would tend to secure a wider market for the merchandise and manufactures of Pitt burgh. In t hi , re- pect consolidation would be a 1,1-flefit. The gentleman from Michlgan altuve mention ed, says he told a Clevelander that Pittalturgh was far ahead or Cleveland, and the man of the • Forest City indignantly scuffed at the idea. He thought Cleveland far ahead ; yet it has not one-fourth the wealth and busine.s, nor one-halt the population that can he found within two miles of the centre of our city. Less is done to make known the advantages of Pittsburgh than of almost any other place. The Philadelphians are constantly boasting of the greatness of their city, and they have established the belief pretty generally that that city is a formidable rival of Sew York, as, indeed; it i , . Bragging will not build cities: but a city, like an individual, must make known its advantages, its business, its growth and its facilities for commercial enter prise, if it would attract trade and capital and population. More than a year ago, the Board of Trade r,f Indianapolis got up a splendid map ,how the central position of that ambitious that sixteen railroads radiated front it to all parts of the country ; that it had coal fields near and many other Advantages for manufacturing and commerce. Those maps were distributed all or or the country. end called for the favorable notices of the go-ahead capital Imlinnn from all quarters. Such a map. representing the po sition of Pittsburgh in the midst of exhaustless ooal and iron fields ; its excellent system of rail roads ; its water communications, and accompa nied by carefully prepared statistics of its present business, would lie useful, and well repay the cost. We hope our Mcrchat.t4' Exchange will give this matter attention_ A Committee was appointed for the purpose some time ago. Oar city is not "set on a hill, " but its advantages should not be hidden. DIFFICULTY tot A !Hon Scnool..—For some time there has been a childish difficulty between the pupils of the Woodward and Hughes High Schools of Cincinnati. Tho Board of Trustees by whom these institutions are governed, recent ly made arrangements for the dedication of the new Woodward school building: and part of the programme decided upon was that the children of both high schools should occupy seats on the platform. In regard to this arrangement there was some excitement among pupils at the Wood ward, and cue of the young ladies in attendance there, wrote a resolution determining not to at tend if the Hughes pupils were present, which was signed by silty•four boys and thirty-four girls. The teachers Allen they heard of this persuaded all the girl- and twenty-five of the boys to withdraw their signatures, but the other twenty-nine obstinately refused, besides deport ing themselves in a disorderly muffler at a meet ing of of the I Board. That body, there fore, unanimously resolved to expel ten of the leaders and suspend the other nineteen, which was canied into effect on Monday last. As Mr. Baguet observed to his friend Mr. George, dis cipline must be maintained," and none will be readier to acknowledge the necessity of the max im than the young gentlemen of the Woodward High School, when they get a few years older. GEN. LEWIS CAss.—A paper in this city some days ago, tried to make it appear that the Dem ocratic members of the U. S. Senate had Blighted this distinguished Statesman because 14s name figures in none of the Committees except that of the Library. It appears it was so arranged at his own request, as he feels his long service and increasing years should grant him immunity from the working Committees of the Senate. At no time has Gen. A proclamation just issued by the Presi dent intimates a knowledge on the part iii' th e Executive of contemplated expeditions te aid RIO assist Walker in maintaining his position in coutral America. Recruits succeed in reaching hint from California in spite of the vigilance of the authorities. Our diplomatic relations with Nicaragua are Certainly peculiar and anomalous. Instructions were sent to Col Wheeler, the American Minister, nut to recognize the new order of things: but before they reached him he had already recognized the new Government, and made a treaty with it, doubtless commer cially advantageeus to liuth countries. one of the first acts of Walker's Government was to dismiss Mr. Mareoleta, the Nicaraguan Minister to the United States, and to appoint as his ser i •rrlio . Tardier 11 French. uu Ainericiin noil t.; his. Party, NO, i s n . 04, his cre dentials.•lt ii a very pretty enianglement as it stands now. The practice of our Government has always been to recognize the existing gov ernment in any country, whatever it may be, so soon 115 there is evidence of its sucees‘ind sta bility. This practice is a eonsequence of the principle recognized by us, that every nation possesses the right to establish its own rem of government and select its own rulers In the present case, Walker's government was imposed upon the Nicaraguans by force, under the dis guise, it is true. of aiding one of the parties to the war in progress at the time of his expedition. It must be conceded, however, that order is apparently restored, the civil war is ended, that Walker's government seems to he acquiesced in hr the inhabitants, mail that it gives greater assurances of stability than any the Nicaraguans have had for ;one time. Auother fact must be admitted, that Nicaragua is undergoing a rapid Americanization. the foot hold gained by the Transit Company, by Walker and the numerous adventurers flocking to his standard, making the result one of certain ac complishment. It is a splendid country, much of it quite healthy, and in American hands it will be one of the garden spots of the world. Other circumstances give importance to the condition of affairs in 13entral America, involving still further complications. It will not be lung before Walker will attempt to extend the author ity of Nicaragua over Mosquito Territory pull down the Mosquito flag, and set at defiance the English protectorate. Our Government has always ad mitted the sovereignty of Nicaragua over this Territory, and maintained it against England, denying to the Mosquito King any right to sov ereign powers. Should Great Britain attempt to sustain this protectorate by force, the necessity will devolve upon us to interfere, in order to maintain our construction of the Clayton-Bulwer treaty, and to defend the Territory of Nicaragua from British colonization. The anticipated com plications, together with the discussion not yet closed, growing out of the Clayton-Bulwer treaty, are sufficient reasons to explain Mr. Bu chanan's further detention at London. To-day there has been some discussion upon Mr. McMullen's proposition—that a temporary Speaker be elected, the appropriation bills be passed, and the members resign. One or two baliotings have been held, but without change of result. limn inclined tO believe, now that a dis cussion of the o.ifficultie, has commenced, that an organization is not very far distant. The telegraph will advise you of the result of the dis cussion now in progress - before this reaches you. 'ERCER.
