.01.!Xe f t of Counterfeiter. Broken Up.—We noticed
some days ago, the arrest of a namher of individuals
In 'Washington county, for circulating counterfeit
money. It was supposed that an eittmsive gang,
whose operations extended over several States, were
engaged in - the business, and officer Hague of this
city was employed to ferret them out. After procur
ingthe arrest of a couple of persons in the borough
ore Washington, he proceeaed to Licking county,
OhlO, where, In a little town about six miles from
Newark, be succeeded in discovering the manufactory
of the bogus money, and making a seizure of the
materials and articles used for its manufacture.
Among them were discovered plaster of Paris dies
for casting half dimes, dimes, quarters, half dollars,
gold dollars, and two dollar and a-half gold pieces,
showing that the business was carried on largely,
and included nearly all the varieties of United States
coin. dyer one hundred dollars of the bogus coin,
of the different denominations above named, were
als9.lonnd. Two men, named Robert Seers and Lo
renzo Brown, ono of whom was the chief manufacturer
of the counterfeit money, were arrested and taken to
Zanesville, where, after an examination before the
UtiitedtStates Marshal, they were committed to the
prison at Cincinnati, to await trial.
The arrests were made on Saturday last and Offi
cer Hague returned home yesterday. He deserves
much credit for Um auccesstal manner in which he
has followed up this gang of rogues, and placed them
in the hands of justice.
Th, West rill it is.—No better knowledge can
behad of the West, by a perusal of volumes of written
descriptions, than that afforded by a visit to Andricu's
Panorama, now on exhibition at Masonic Hall. In
order that the reader may have a faint, idea of the
objects delinaated on canvass, we will enumerate a
few of them : Chicago, a magnificent view, exhibit
ing noble edifices, and shipping; Lake Michigan,
covered with noble ships ; Blue Island ; Prairie on
Fire Sportsmen Killing (fame ; Joliet by Moonlight;
Morris at Day Break ; numerous romantic sceties
connected with Indian legends ; Utica by Moonlight;
Illinois Central Railroad Bridge ; La Salle and Peru ;
Peoria Lake and City; Mouth of the Mississippi
River; Detroit: Windsor, Canada West; Toledo, 0.;
Maumee River, etc., etc., all of which are faithfully
presented, and executed in the highest style of art.
The Panorama concludes with beautiful scenes rep
resenting Life at the South. But to be appreciated,
this work of art must be seen. Liu to night, and
take all your friends with you.
'fn Torrn.—We had the pleasure of taking by the
hand yesterday, our healthy looking friend, 0. B.
Brown, Esq., the traveling agent of the Cleveland
and Thiele, the Lake Erie and Mad River, and the
Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroads, who, we
believe, is here on business connected with these lines
of travel. He is stopping ut the St. Clair. By the
way, a now route has been opened up to Cincinnati
by direct qonnections, perfected about the first of the
present month, via the Ohio and Pennsylvania road
to Crestline ; thence over the Bellefontaine and the
Mad itiCer roads to Dayton, and from there by the
Ciociartati, Hamilton and Daytim road. It is equally
as speedy and cheap as any other route.

girl, on Saturday afternoon last, in a grove near the
residence of N. S. Wilson, a mile and a half this side
of Washington, Pa. The negro had recently been
discharged from the Penitentiary. He was caught in
the act, and was placed in irons in the Washington
jail. The Sheriff had difficulty in keeping the people
from murdering him on the spot.
