City passed a resolution requesting proposals for the ite provement of the Diamond Squares. The :prt?pated _lmprovements were to include a new usarliethorise and a City hall. At the last meeting of that body, . . agreeably to this request, four different -plans were handed in, one of which contemplates an entire change of the squares. One of the plans is offered by Mr. Rorie, of Philadelphia, and is very exten sive, and estimated to cost $66,000. Another was offered by the Messrs. Dixon, of Baltimore, and will cost $60,000. Messrs. Barr t Moser, of Allegheny, present plans which are estimated at- $45,000. The fourth elan is offered by Mr. Glengembre, of Alle gheny, who estimates his improvements will cost $lOO,OOO. Several members of the Councils were in favor of adopting one of these plans, and nearly all seemed to be inTavor of the contemplated improve manta. The matter was referred to a committee of five, whh*Sl r ropert 'at the next meeting. The citizens of Allegheny have long desired an improvemetit'of their public squares of this kind, and we feel satistiedivlll willingly meet the necessary expenses. If the Committee report favorably, their action will be approved by the great mass of the in habitants. District Court.—Hon. IL W. Williams on the Bench. MONDAY, December 10. John Swinger, administrator of Margaret Saenger, deceased, vs Dr. Herman Hoffman and Dr. Frederick Tenths,. Action to recover damages for alleged mal treatment Stanton and Umbstaetter for plaintiff; Black, getterman and Keeton for defendants. Mrs; Margaret Saenger, the wife of the plaintiff above named, while attended by the defendants, died in giving birth to a child, on the 13th of March, 18.54. Considerable excitement was created at the time, inlienoithhorhood where she resided, (South Pittsburgh) on , aceount , of her death, as it was al leged hibniebeen caused by the mai-treatment of I the defendants. An inquest was held upon the body i by the Coroner, and a verdict rendered that the wo i tutu] came to her death from the unskilfulness and . ignorance of the attending physicians, Drs. Hoffman and Tottdte. In consequence of this verdict, snit was instituted for damages, but from various causes, the ease was not brought before the Court until yes k lerday. The case will probably continue on hand ;' for several days. The Election Pince its the Third Wm-ff.—We men tioned several days ago that the School Directors of the Third Ward had refused to allow the school buildings to be used for election purposes. The Di rectors-allege as a reason for this refusal that the structure is not well adapted fur holding elections in ; the desks would have to be removed out of the lower rooms ; the windows are too high to admit of voting without constructing a platform underneath, and an alteration of the gas burners would be necessary, in order to allow the light to be used in counting off the rote after night, thus putting the Board to groat expense. In addition to this, every election would cause a suspension of the schools for several days, besides. injuring the building and lards, There are many other reasons for the refusal; which are equally as good. The 'Board wish it to be understood that they hare been guided in the matter solely by a de sire to preserve the property entrusted to their care. Anti-Snots Nothing Tieket.—A meeting of a por tion of the citizens of the Sixth Ward opposed to secret political societies, was held at the School House last night, at which the following ticket, to be voted for at the ensuing January election, was adopted : &sleet Council—Henry Lambert. Common Cogiaca—Ru.ssell F,rrett, William A. Laze, William .R. Kelly, Robert lit'Adams. Judge of Ekctions—Henry Rea. /aspretor--James K. Snodgrass. .A..essor----William Dickson. &Iwo! Blown down.—The Union Church, situated in Rob- Anson etuarnship, near M'Farland's Old Stand, was partially tslown down on Sunday last, about 1 o'clock. The congregation had not assembled in the church in consequence of repairs going on, which doubtless saved a sacrifice "of human life. The church was •erected about 1834, and was deemed a very substan tint building. The windows were all out of the edi duo, and the wind coming in lifted the roof off, also forcing oat the rear end. The damage is estimated at about SLODO.
