Yesterday, Alder man Major visited him at his residence on Logan street, and received from him the following deposi tion:— City of Pittsburgls, se. Before me, an Alderman, in and for the city of Pittsburgh, personally appeared Thomas McCoy, who, being sworn, cloth-depose and say : I wttaerossing up the steps from Bayardstown, and I met with a Mrs. Connor; she asked me to go into Mary Bruce's, and see if her sister was not in there; I went in and found her there ; her name is Martha Weaver;l told her her sister did not like her to be there; argaret Donovan, or Sands, was there; also Mary Ellen Drake and Dan Dunham; they had whis ky there; there' ere three fellows cams in; one of them was William Canghey ; the other men did not know ; Canghey was sitting in the middle of the three, and we got into a difficulty ; I cannot say whether he struck first or I first ; all I struck with was my hand; I was not making any arrest at the time ; I was only there at the request of Mr?. Weaver; it was a quarrel between ourselves; I had been drinking ; Canghey then commenced stab bing me In the house; it seems to me that I left the house, and he followed me and stabbed and stabbed; went ()lathe back door, and up a little alley ; he stab ' bed,stabbed, and stabbed, until some one said I was a dead man; I do not believe there was any one who assisted and encouraged William Canghey in his assault on me • I ran from him, and have very little recollection of anythinguntil you (Aid. Major,) came there; you was the first person I recognized; I re collect seeing Mr. Finch there; I ran from Caughey when he =tacked me, but cannot recollect that he made any remarks; I did not go to the house for the purpose of making an arrest I had no warrant to arrest any one; I believe it was the intention of Canghey u to kill and murder me; I drank liquor in the house; I do not know that any liqeor was drank after Caughey came in ; all in thah house ware under the influence of liquor; I cannot say that I know a man by the name of Cress ; I did not go for thnprtrpose of arresting Cress ; to my know t. .ledge *ere Was no one .aided, abetted or assisted Wm. Oinghey-in his assault on me: to my knowledge, I did not strike at Caughey, at any time, with anything ' but my fist; have no recollection of striking him with a chair; I was under the influence of liquor; I do not know or recollect what was the cause of tho quarrel between us ; I do not think that Canghey, at .atty thee, struck me with his fist; (the knife taken from Caughey was here shown to deponent) this, I ,am positive, is the knife with which I was steeled ; I saw it in Caughey's band.
