The President read a communication from the
Treasurer of the Allegheny Valley Railroad, stating
that the interest on the matured coupon bonds of the
company had been cancelled, and requesting Coun
cils to take some measures to destroy the bonds.
The President also directed the attention of Coun
cils to the fact that a box of unsigned city scrip was
also in possession of the Bank of Pittsburgh which
should be taken care of.
He also presented the following resolutions, which
wore read three times and passed :
Resolved, That the Finance Committee be in
structed to obtain and burn all the new sheets of
"certificates of loan," known as city scrip, now de
posited in the vaults of Pittsburgh, (said scrip or
certificates of loan never having been signed, or is
sued) and make record of the amount Fe destroyed
on the books of the City Treasurer.
Resolved, That the same Committee (the Finance
Committee) be authorised to superintend the destruc
tion of the matured coupons upon the bonds issued
to the Allegheny Valley Railroad Cutnpany, in pay
ment of stock subscribed) !tad held by the city in ,aid
company.
Mr. Drum presented a remonstrance from a num
ber of citizens of the Ninth Ward, opposing the
crossing of Penn street by the Allegheny Valley
Railroad. Laid over for the present.
