BODY.—It is an astonishing fact, that a very
large class of diseases can only be" cured by such
I remedies as will enter into the BLoou, and circu
late with it, through every portion of the body, for
only by this means can the remedy , be brought
into immediate contact with the disease; and to at•
min - this desirable end, no preparation has been so
uniformly successful as DR. JAYNE'S ALTER
TIVE. Sorofula, Kings' Erg, Cancer and Cancer

This is to certify that we have used tile American
Oil fur the whooping cough; among our _children, by
giving them from 20 drops to a small tea spoOnful at
night, which always enabled them to rest well through
the night. I also applied It to one of the children
that got her arm burnt by turning over a tea imp of
hot coffee on it, the child ceased crying by the time
the arm was dressed and bound up, ! and has never
complained of it since. I also was afflicted with a,
pain in my side ano breast, and have .been so for Id
years. I commenced using the Oil t;) , taking a tea
spoonful twice a day and in 3 or four days using of
the oil I have ben very much relieved, and do really
believe that it is the best family Medieine that I have
ever seen. I applied it to one of my neighbor's for
. strained ancle, which relitied her in a few minutes.
We have' also used the Oil for a strained joint in our
own family, which gave ease M a vbry short time.',
We live on the cast side of Penn st., 3 doors south.of
Walnut, -I am now as well as I everiwas in my life.
MARGARET, 11. SMITH.
This is to certify, that my son has had the Plethisic
for seven years, and was very bad with it, and about
12 or 15 days since, I commenced giving to him
about 20 or 25 drops of the American Oil, twice a
day. which relieved him' in a day or.iwo of his diffi

of his cough; our boy ib 10 yaars of age. We live in

Having been cured of a very severe disease
of the eyes and head by the use of the American
pit; I feel it my duty to the public, as well as to you;
to send you the following certificatei . ,
I hereby certify that I was severely
j ai:dieted one
year ago last_ winter, with inflamed Isere eyes and a
very severe - pain in my head from niy eyes up to the
top of my head, and continued so for several weeks.
My eyes were so much inflamed ;and sore that 1
'could not see to attend any business nor could I tell
One object from another a few* yards From me. I
called in a physician, but still got worse. I also j
'tried a good many remedies that had cured others; /
but in my case they. failed. In April, 1845, I heard ,
'of the American Oil. I procured a bottle, and be
fore had used a half a bottle I was entirely well,
and still continue 80.. I will not be without it in my
house as long as lean get the genuine article. I also
gave it to one of my men that was I working for me,
that had the teller in his hands sop.w.d that when he
would grip anything tight in them the blood would
burst out, and the use of half a bottle cured usiboth.
J would advise all that are afflicted in any way to
give the Oil a fair trial, and I think they will be
pleased with the effect it will have, &c.

From the Mo. Herald and Mbune, edhinet.—Extra•
Late and Important from lifexleo.-.trnited
States Brig of War 'Braxton burnt.
By the arrival of the United States revenue str.
Legare at New Orleans, from Vera Cruz, we are in
receipt of letters from our 'correspondentsas late as
the 29th ult. We have but time, !previous to the
closing of the mail, to publish the following letter:
U. S. SQUADRON, ore
POINT* A.NTOND:I DR LIZARD°,
August 29, 18.16.
The only - event of importance which has trans•
pired of late is the loss of the U. S. brig Truxton,
on the bar
.of the Tuxpan river, about 130 miles,
northward of Vera Cruz. The intelligence was
brought to the squadron on the 10th by the St.
Mary's, thatahip having picked up one of the Trux.
ton's boats with Lt. Berryman on board.
It appears that Capt. Carpender, of the Truxton,
wishing to get his vessels near shore to protect his
boats while obtaining provisions, employed a
Scotchman he had taken out of a Mexican prize to
pilot him in, but who whether from design or ac
. cident, run him aground, on the 13th. On the 17th,
with the exception of Lieut. Hunter and a boat's
crew, she was abandonded by the officers and men,
who went ashore to the number of about sixty in
all, and surrendered themselves to the Mexican
commandant. They were hosPitally received, com
plimented with a ball, and lett next day with a',
guide of four men for Tampico, about 100 miles
further north. Lt Hunter and his boat's crew put
to sea, captured a small Mexican schooner and
' came down to our present anchorage, making in
all two officers (Lieuts. Berryman and Hunter) .
and about twenty men saved. As soon as the news
was received, the Princeton immediately got under
weigh and proceeded to the scene of disaster.
The Truxtoa was found beating, on the bar, bilg
ed and completely filled with water, having about
four feet over the berth deck. The serf was so
violent on the boat is it it was not until he 22d that
the boats of the Princeton could board her, when
finding it impossible to gether off or la e her, she
was fired and completely burned. A few of the
best spars were brought off, but otherwise she is al
total loss. She had been completely plundered and
stripped by the Mexicans before the arrival of the
Princeton. Her guns were found to have been
thrown overboard. The Princeton ran into five
fathoms water (she draws 101 feet,) and was then
about II miles distant, the swell was so heavy that
a nearer approach in shoaler water was deemed
dangerous.
After tiring the brig, the Princeton returned ire -1
mediately, on the 23d, to this present anchorage,
about 10 miles southward of 'Vera Cruz.. At the
mouth of Tuxpan river, the Mexicans have a small
force tented in sheds. The town of Tuxpan is
back some eight miles distant, Several commu
nications passed between the Princeton and shore
by Bags c.l truce, and by them the fate of the cap
tives was learnt.
The cutter Legate, GO hours from Er s s, arrive d
on the 25th with despatches for our commodore,'
supposed relating to a three month's armistice with
the Mexicans The distance from the Brazos to,
this place is 450 miles, and was performed under
steam, against strong head winds. The Legate
returns to New Orleans for repairs to her boilers.,
which are in la bad condition, and prevents her'
1
carrying steam.
About 10 days since Santa Aria left Vera Cruz
for the city of Mexico, previous which, however,
he sent a polite invitation to our commodore, to
meet him on board the English frigate Eridynt.on.l
the interview did not take place. A few days back
0.. e of the English frighate's boats came down in
a wit-lent rain squai with a communication for the
commodore; the next day a flag of truce was re
turned, but no rumor of the business was transpir
ed. The frigate Potomac is nearly disabled by the
sickness of her crew, the scurvy has broken out
on board of her. and she has now 1.10 cases of that
dreadful diseace. On the 27th, the Cutter tor
ward arrived front the balize, but brought no intel
ligence of importance.

SIRSIPAIIILLA VEGETABLE BLOOD 1 3 1115.—The
proprietor is obliged to manufacture them on a more
extensive scale than heretofore, and by a great im
provement in his machinery, can make them much
faster and with less labor, consequently less ex
pense, which enables him to sell 40 pills to the
box instead of thirty as heretofore. As a Spring
Purifier, these pills have no equal, and for purify
ing the blood, and purging and cleansing the stom
ach and bowels, they are the safest, best, and
most efficacious in existence. If pills are necessa
ry at all, Dr. Leidy's Blood Pills will effect all that
can be effected by any known pills in the world,
for all the virtues that can be combined in pills
are contained in them, and their established repu
tation is the best proof of it. No other Pills are
known to contain Sarsaparilla in them, and all
other Pills called by names nearly similar, are
manufactured only With a view to sell them on

Be cautious, therefore; ask for and take no oth.

whilst if you take of the spurious, or imitations,
yOu will not only be deceived by their effects;
which are ofttirnes serious and dangerous, but de

Male and female, young and old, can take them
