Resolved, That this convention consider the present attempt to reduce the prices sof carpet weavers unnecessary and unjust seeing that the Tariff (the:declared cause of this attempt) does not come into operation fon' three months. nor can we believe that its actual operation would justify this attempt. 2. Resolved, :That knowing from experience that' our present wages are not more than remunerative, and only'snirketent to afford us a tolerable subsis tence, we cannot admit the propriety of a reduction of our present prices. .5. Rest:deed, Tliatthe reduction of wages has nev er been a Permnnent advantage to the employers, for when they cannot obtain a sufficient price in the market, the just and proper remedy is to with hold the supply until the demand cause a return to remunerative prices. 4. Resolved, That this convention look upon the present proposal to reduce wages aS ruinous, and that it is their duty to resist by every legal means the carrying into effect such a proposal. After reading an address to the employerers, and the transaction of some other business of minor im portance, the convention took a recess till the after noon. ._The session .of Wednesday afternoon was chiefly occupied in discussing local grievances and suggesting 'remedies, precious to the formation of a ' constitution. On Thursday is to be' held the con ference meeting with the 'employers.
