HEV/EW OF . TUE lILLTIKET FOR TUE WEEK ENDING
Thursday, august 14, I§4t3
Business still continues without any perceptible
change, and will 'doubtless remain at its present
low ebb for a . few weeks yet. i The weather for
some days back has been very '%•a,rm and dry. -
The river has raised a few inches since our last;
yesterday evening we noticed 3} feet water in the
channel. The break in the Canal, a few miles'.
above Deer Creek, has occasioned the delay of a
considerable amount of freight;' we presume the
break will be repaired in a few days.
Asess—A few sales of pots have been effected

Corroie.—We bear of no sales; middling fair
Mississippi brings Sc. cred.
FLoun.—Since our last report prices are without
alteration; we note the sale of !a small lot, choice
brands at $2,40 per bbl, extra still holds at $1,50;
large sales of an inferior quality have been effect
ed at the river for $2,250;37i: The receipt du
ring the week has been pretty heavy, bict the prin
cipal part of it has been for ire-shipment. New
flour in bags for 14,50 per 100:lbs.
Faurr.—Grern apples continue to come in rap
idly, sales of good Marietta have been made on the
levee at from $1,126 to 1,25, pars, a good article

butter for table use ranges from 10 to 16 ets per
lb. in market, keg from store 6a7 as to quality.
WHlSKEr.—Rectified 18 cash, and 183 ( 41b Oli
time.
Ter. CILOPS.—In some paits of the state, t 6
"rot' has been making sad havoc in the wheat
crop, but the harvest generally has been very a
bundant; the yield of fall grirt is thrte-fold that
of past seaaons.
MARYLAND.—Wheat very materially injured b
scab and rust
IsnissA—The present year's wheat crop is tett
per cent inferior in quality to last year, on account
of the rust. Other crops never looked better—an
Editor in Rushville had presented to him a bunch
of oats with heads a jays long.
• Wiscossin.—The quality of wheat is fair, tie
by no means equal to last year—the quantity has
-been decreased by the rust.
Missounx.—The late crops have been muth in
jured by a severe drouth, more excessive than has
been known for many years. ,
Mrssissrept.—Late rains have given the cotton
a start, and it is now going to' weed rapidly, but is
still small. Decidedly short 'crops are, however,
generally anticipated. 1,
Loursimx.t.—ln the Red River parish, sugar
looks fme—new sugar-houses have been put up,
and machinery of the most costly kind placed in
them. In the Avoyelles parish any thing like a
full crop of torn is by no 'means to be hoped for.
Heavy rains have been succeeded by very warm
weather throughout the State, and fears are enter
tained that the rain will bring out the catexpillet.
FLORIDA.—There Fs encouragement to hope for
a large crop of cctton. The corn crop in the neigh
borhood of .Apalachicola will be very large. In
west Florida, it is feared that the corn crop will
suffer from the dry weather.
CANADA.—The Montreal, Times states that the
fly has done great injury to the wheat crop.
Mrcuroarr.--The wheat 'crop is much injured
by the rust. The yield, however, will be abundant,
from the large sown.
Ouro.—Not so much injured by the rust, but
nevertheless, much damage done. Spring crops
never better. Corn promises more than an average
crop.,.
ILLlNors.—Crop essentially hurt by rust The
surplus, however, will be havy.
lows.—About the same: The immense hum:
her of emigrants rushing into lowa, Wisconsin
and Illinois, will' consume' a large surplus, and
11 keep at home what otherwise would have to seek
an eastern rgarket. There are many thousands in
Wisconsin who are non-producers this season, and
consumers of the products of others. In a year or
two,, the effects of this accession to the agricultu
ral population of the West, ;will be seen and felt in
the flour and wheat market..

Wilcox 352.
Congross—Smith 411, Truinbull 395.
Davis [Whig] was elected to the Senate, and
Smith [Whig] to the House.
Macoupin - -Mr. Hart [Dem.] and Mr. Tappan
[Whig] elected to the House.
Madison.—Kilpatrick has a majority of 35 for
Governor, and Smith 781 majority for Congress.
Gillispie [Whig] is elected Senator by a majority
of 204. De Wolf and Blakeman [Whigs,] and
Martin [Dem.] are chosen Representatives.
W. B. Reynolds has been elected County Com
missioner and Frederick Wells Coroner.
Ici-scr,: The Whigs carried their whole ticket.
Greene has elected one Democrat and one Whig
to the legislature. Greene and Calhoun (district)
has chosen a Demo Critic Representative.
Sangamon has gone for the Whigs, as usual.
Randolph: Partial returns—Smith's majority
about 450.
It is now quite certain says the Cincinnati
Advertiser of the 10th, that Governor Whitcomb
is re-elected, and by fully as great a major
ity as he obtained against Bigger. We were a
little startled by the first news, but the first is al
ways Whig news.
In toitiething like une half of the State, the
Whig gain amonnts to 812; but this is borne down
by Demoi:ratiC gains in the aggregate of 1,124.
Majority over Bigger was 2,314, and
instead df Oi•ercorriing that majority, they have
thus fat fallbn some 300. We regard the State
as safe for us; ailil shall wait for correct returns be
fore attempting to give Mails.
We have tiOW the returro Mini 63 counties;
from sources which we have nd doubt of their gen
eral accuracy. Whitcdmh is 1060 votes ahead
of Marshall. In the 28 coinitikm to be heard from,
Whitcomb had a majority over his coiirjretitor in
1843, cf nearly 300 votes. Therefore little doubt
of his election.
The Whigs probably have a decided majority in
the House
In the Senate the parties were tied. We have
now a majority of 4, having gained 3, and hist
1, as follows:
Marion—Wm. Stewart, dem. gain, maj. 46
Tippecanoc—G. S. Orth, Whig maj. 50.

TILE WILSON PILLS, as a remedy peculiarly
adapted, for headaches and dyspeptic affections,
art pretty generally known and esteemed in. this
Community . ; and the proprietor, so often as hehas
occasion to write or speak cif them - , can'scarcely; re
frain from an eapreision of his grateful acknovvledg
inents to friends fol. their patronage and kindness
to him. flisTeeliegs aid the warmer from observi4
the "beginning and the ending"—thrown almost in
j u rtaposition—of so many nostriffas and kindred pre
parations equally loud in their pretensions, and
much more industriously presented to the public;
while his preparation noiselessly advantes, even to
remote, places, soothing aruteemforting the afflicted,
and permanently grafting itself upon the affections
of new friends, thus continually widening the bircle
of its uiSfulnesi. Altliciugh well satisfied iliat; his
medicine has, as it wert it principle of perpetuity in
it, yet he is obliged to his friends for the most sub
stantial evidence of the ract;
In its natural history, if you plane, the Wilson •
Pill differs from most other preparations in not being
originally made for sale, or with a viow tai3iecuraiary
profit; while as every body knows, the greatest tyro
(as a general thing) no sooner begins to dabble in
drugs than he casts about for some cheap prepara
tion, or most 'get up,' as the phrase is, something—
anything that will sell. Often lie attempts it under
an assumed or fictitious name, as though conscious
his own were insufficient to sell it. The difference
then between the Wilson Pill and the preparations a
have just indicated, would appear to be this: 'The
consciousness of the value of my pill originated
the idea of putting them on sale for money, and at I
price. Tho consciousness of the value of money
originates in most instances the many preparations.
I have alluded to; and the price most likely 'to take''
is always first carefully considered, and the pill or;
other preparation made and graduated to suit it., The .
one is a DISCOVERY, and comes from the great A rcana
of Universal Nature; the other a trick or invention,
and comes from- a not very popular quality of INDI
VIDUAL Nature. Reader! the difference here is
great. In one instance the value attached to the PILL
is the starting point; in the other, the MONEY. But
it is not probable that some of the many prepara
tions having even such paternity were accidentally
good, but that possibly by this process of "getting
up" as they call a, by puffing and blowing, as we
clean wheat, they have been "got up" too high be
fore their specific gravity had been carefully ascer

Whatever may be the rationale, I must repeat it,

their discrimination in not consigning any discovery to
that compenduous category of "inventions that did
not answer"—of "tricks that won't win.."
The Wilson Pillsare useful as a GENERAL remedy,

CLICKENER'S SUGAR COATED VEGETABLE
PILLS are the' first and only Medicine ever
known that will positively cure
Headache, Giddiness, Measles, Salt Rheum,
Rheumatism, Piles, Heartburn, Worms,
Dispepsia, Scurvy, Cholera Morbns,
Small Pus, Jaundice, Coughs, Quinsy,
Pains in the Back, Whooping Congh,
Inward Weakness, Consumption,:Fits,
Palpitation of the Heart, Liver Complaint,
Rising in the Throat, Erysipelas, Deafness,
Dropsy, Asthma, Itchings 61 the Skin,
Fevers of all kinds, Colds, Gout, Gravel,
Female Complaints, Nervous Complaints,
And all other diseases originating frchn impurities of
the blood.
-They have cured, since their introduction,
over 2,000 persons, who have been given up as hope- 1
leas cases, by the most eminent Physicians.
11:1:7 - They are patronized and recommended by
men of the highest distinction, among whom are—
Hon.
David R. Porter, Hon. Henry Clay,
Hun. John Q. Adams, lion. Daniel Webster,
Hon. Martin Van Buren, Hon. J. C. Calhoun,
Gen. Winfield Scott, Col. R. M. Johnson,
Hon. James K. Polk, Gen. Lewis Cass.
7 - Their virtues are so infallible:that the money
will be returned in all cases they do not give univer
sal satisfaction. Although but two and al half years
have elapsed Since these celebrated: Pill 4 wee first
introduelA to the public, the sale of them in the
Eastern and middle States has far exceeded Dr.
Clickener's most sanguine expectations. : During the
Fast year, alone, no lees than 10,000 gratis of boxes
have been sold in the State of New; York, 6,000 in
Penusylyania, 4,000 in Maryland, 3,000 in New Jer
sey, 2,000 in Delaware, nnd 9,000 in the New England
States; requiring the constant employMent of 2;
hands, exclusive of printers and engravers. In the
same Period, upwards o f 200,000. copies of the
"Family Doctor" have been ordered by agents in
every section of the country. These facts must
show, conclusively, that. Dr. Clickerer's Sugar Coat
ed Pills, besides being the very best medicine in the
world, are held in the highest e.stimatioriby the public.
We might extend this publication to an indefirf
ite length, if we deemed it expedient td publish all
tersimonials we have received, not only from agents
but individuals and families, who have experienced
the benficial effects of Clickener's Sugar Coated
Pills, but we deem it unnecessary: The most in
contestible evidence of their unprecedentedpuccess,
are the numberless Imitations and Counterfeits which
have already appeared, notwithstanding the brief pe
riod they have been before the public. Even some
of our staunchest pill makers have had the audacity
to imitate the Capsule of Sugar, in order, to disguise
the ingredients of their vile compOunii, and palm
them off for the "real Billion pure." Such paltry
shills cannot last long without exposing their hideous
deformity. Truth and honesty must inevitably pre
vail over rascality and deception:
For sale in Pittsburgh by WM. JACKSON, at his
Patent Medicine frordiouse, No. 89, Liberty street,
head of Wood st.,\Pitteiburgh. Price, 25e: per
Dr. Clickener's principalotrice is SI Batclay street,

Beware of an imitation article called im
proved Sugar Coated Pills, purporting to be paterited,
as both the pills and the pretended patent are for
geries. got up by a miserable quack in! New York,
who, for the last four or five years, his made his
living by counterfeiting liopular medicines.
0:7 - Remember, Dr. C. %.Clickener is the original
inventor of Sugar Coated Pills, and:that nothing of
the sort was ever heard of until he introduced them
in June, 1543. Purchasers should therefore, always
ask for Clickener's Sugar Coated Vegetable Pills, and
take no other, or they will be made the victims of a
fraud. may 9
