STEAMBOAT LI/ BTLITT.-A suit was yesterday
tried before Justice Whetmore, in which Lewis
Morris was plaintiff; and the steamer Bulletin de
fendant. it appears that Morris was passeno ' er on
board of the boat, which arrived in the night, and
he-desired to go ashore asked the clerk if his trunk
Would be safe if he left it in his state room till mor
ning; the olerk said he supposed it would; Mr.
Morris then went ashore and returned in the morn
ing and found his trunk. was *gone. lie sued the
steamboat for $73,50, .the supposed value of the
trunk and contents. The Jury returned a ver
dict of $26,00, damages in favor of the plaintiff.
The.legal 'of steamboats should teach
their officers not to incur any unnecessary liabili
