STEAMBOATS vs PAINT SG.—lt is becoming very
fashionable of late among our steamboat men, to
have a painting, suitable ,to the name of the boat,
on the wheel-house; we have often wondered their
good taste had not prompted them to it long ago,
for we believe it to be essential to the general
pearance of the boat, it certainly gives a fine finish,
and attracts the attention of the public sooner than
any other ornament they can place on the boat.
The steamer Declaration is the only boat which
has been finished in the above style this season,,and
the press of Cincinnati, Louisville and St. Louis
have given her owners great praise for their taste.
We understand that Mr. MILLER, the gentleman
who painted the pictures for the Declaration, is
about finishing a fine painting fora new boat being
built by Capt. Poe.
TII/T Parses.—lf the person who is in the hab
it of taking (withoUt permission.) his neighbors
paper, in the vicinity of Factory street and Mul
berry Alley, will call at this office, it is quite prob
able that an agreement can be made which will
save him the trouble of rising so early in the mor
ning to get the news.
MistoNs.—Water Melons were offered for sale
in our market yesterday, these are the first that
have been brought to market this season. The
Blioys went into them a few.
Our notice of the commencement of Du
quesne College has been crowded out to-day. I
will appear on Monday.
cO. - The Southern mail failed from Browns
ville last night, owing to the high water in the
Monongahela.
aj.The sudden rise in the Monongahela on
Tusday night, carried off the Birmingham Store
Ferry Boat. They recovered it yesterday morning
a short distance below the city.
SUNK.—Tura coalboate struck against one of
the piers of the Moniabgahela bridge yesterday
morning, and sunk immediately.
Mims —Owing to the flood in the Monongahe
la the Mail Boats have been compelled to lay up
for a few days, the water being over the locks.—
They will probably resume their trips to-morrow.

embrace the first pesure moment to communicate it
to you, and if the cure is as radical as it appears to
be, it is the most remarkable one I have ever known.
For 32 years (after having' the measles) he has been
suffering with a cough. of the most distressing kind,
getting worse as he advanced in.years; (he is now 55.)
Frequent terms of coughing and difficulty of breath
ing, lasting from an, hour to an hour and a half,
would come upon hint,With such severity as to ex
haust him, with strangin j g until Isis eyes became
bloodshot. He hid despaired of being cured, hav
ing tried physicians and a thousand things , without
relief. For nine weelcS immediately previous to his
