Last Saturday morning, while the Great Wes-' tern was lying at Mackinaw; it ‘l as: whispered round that one of the passengers, who seemed a trim boy of some sixteen or eighteen years. was in tact a woman. Under these circumstances. she had sworn to, have revenge or Justice. She had ascertained that the man who hail thus deeply wronged her was', living at Mackinaw, and she had conie there to ob tain a recognition of her rights, or rengence in default. Upon which she exhibited two loaded pistols which she carried about her person. Af ter some farther conversation, she gave up the pis tols, and a messenger was despatched to the bus.' band with an intimation that a passenger on the Western wished to see him.. He soon came on board, and the two parties met face to fare. The women upbraided him with all the wrongs he had inflicted upon her, and demanded reparation for hsrself and children by a lgal marriage, at the same time, with all the recklessness of a woman goaded to desperation, threp nine. his life with the mast vehement awes ~..r,thais if he failed to do her justice. She was run to the shore, when her bow grounded in three feet water, while her stern lay in fifteen. In this condition her pumps were started, but with no material effect, as the water continued to gain headway, and tl.e stern to settle down. Fortunately at this crisis, the Tempest hove in sight, and soon after, the Fortune, also. These boats immediately went to her assistance; but, notwithstanding the united exertions of their crews to clear her of water, nothing could be effected, until a pilot belonging to the Tempest„ dived down to the breach in the hull, and, with a buffalo robe, partially stole ped - the leak. This adventurous feat was doubtless the means of saving the boat. The Tempest and Fortune lay by her all day on the Fourth, and finally succeeded in raising her. PONSUMPTION and Bleeding at the Lungs cured by the Ltie Of Di. DUNC.A3I . 3 E.XPECTORANT Miss EMELINE VEAGER, aged seventeen years, was taken, when at the age of sixteen, with a slight cold; which she neglected until the LUNGS fell a prey to that seeking destroyer, CONSUMPTION, when application to a physician was made, but to no effect. Ho considered her case a hopeless one, and prescribed but little medicine for her. In the mean time she discharged great quantities of blood, with much expectoration of thick phlegm and cough.— Ber bodily frame at length became reduced to a lir , ing skeleton. Her last was anxiously looked for by her friends, that her sufferings might end by the pangs of death. During the time, her physician frequently called, and as the last resort, determined, to test the virtues of "Dr. Duncan's Expectorant Remedy,” having noticed some extraordinary cures performed by the medicine in similar cases. He at once obtained two' bottles, and administered it to her. The fourth day he ound some change, which gave hopes. Be continued giving the medicine for e•gliteen days; at that time she was rendered able to be walking in her bed chamber, to the astonishment' of her friends and relatives. She continued using the medicine for eight weeks, when she declared herself entirely free from disease and pain, and now pursues her daily occupations in perfect health. D :7- A small pamphlet accompanies this medicine, which gives a full description of diseases, the man ner of treatment, &c, &c. Dr. D. jAYNE, No. 8 south Third street,,Philadel. phis.--Deer Sir—l have this 'day had an interview with the gentleman of whorit I made mention to voti as having ;taken your Expectorant withsucli decided effect. lie 13a respetabie tamer, living a few miles rro:a he: I was so much interested in a xletailed account he gave me of his cough and cure, that I embrace the first liesure moment to communicate it to you, att!l if the cure is as radical as it appears to be, .t iv the most remwkabie one I have ever known. For 3: years (a,ter having the measles) he has been suffering wait a cough of the most distressing kind, getting worse as he advanced in years; (he is now 55.) Frequent terms of coughing and difficulty of 'breath mg, lasting from an hour to an hour and a nalf, would come upon him, with such severity as to ex haust hits, with strangling until his eyed became btoodsbili Ile had despaired of being cured, hav ing tried, physicians and tj thousand things without relief. For nine weeks immediately previous to his taking the Expectorant, he had' not been able to to I to his barn, although there was the most urgent Ise ' cessity ffir him to do so. During the nine weeks 'he was under the care of an eminent Physician, and he finally got just able to go out and came to my store, and, hearing hiscough, I recomMended to him your Expectorant. Ile first said he hail tried so many ithings that ho had no.con fidence in any thing; but Ii induced him to take a bot- 1 tle by telling-him of persons of my acquaintance who had been decideply bene,..i.rd by it. This was on Tuesday-', that night he took of it, and sayithat it was the final comfortable night's. sleep ha had *enjoyed for years. On the Thursday following he went to work, and has continued ro make a full hand on his farm ever since, (now nearly two months.) He told me to-day that for the last week he had cut and split a hundred rails, or made 100'panels of fence per day; has been in the water to wash hie sheep, and other wise exposed, without the least symptom of a return of his tough, it having; entirely disappeared, and, strangeat of ell, one third of a bottle has produced the effect. He semis° thankful and overjoyed that he "wants to talk all day'about it,” and says that if he could not'procure another bottle, he would refuse $lO O for the remainder of the bottle he has left.
