HORRIBLE MCIII/Ell OF A lio.rAs HT FIEO Husnasn.—lt has been but a few weekS since our city was thrown into - a painful state of e 4 xcitement, occasioned, by Beatson murdering his wife on Pros pect st.,and with the particulars of that murder fresh in our memory, we are called upon to record another of a still more aggravated character. On Sunday evening; news was received in:this city that a man named Farmsnica. REIDEL, of Lower St. Clair township, had in a like manner, beaten to death his wife. From the evidence given before the coroner's Jury, it appears that on Sunday evening, between five and six o'clock. Reidel called upon some of his neighbors, and infornied them that his wile had been murdered. Several of them_ accompani ed him to his dwelling and there found the muti lated and bruised body of the murdered woman laying on the bed, covered over with a quilt. Her clothes had been all stripred Off and the body washed. The neighbors found secreted under the bed, the under clothes of Mrs. Reidel, which were wet, as if the attempt had been made - to wash the stains of blood out of them; stains of blood: had been partially wiped off the floor, and behind the door they also discovered the handle of a pick axe, perfectly matted with blood and hair. When accusedßeidel, disclaimed all knowledge of the murder and stated that he had been away from the house during the whole of the day—that when he came home in the evening he asked the children where their mother was, and that they told him she was in bed—that he went into the /Muse, and found her dead, and went immediately to inform them; and, though spots of blood were on his clothes, which he had evidently attempted to wash out, he protested that he had not touched the body. Reidcl's oldest child, a bay about six years of age, says that his father beat his mother with a stick till he killed her. The verdict of the jury was fhat she came to her death from blows, in flicted on her person with a pick axe handle, by her husband, FreJerick On the strength of the testimony before the Cor oner's jury, Reidel was fully committed by Alder man M'Kee of Birmingham, to await his trial at the next term of the Court of Quarter Sessions. Rcidel is a German, about 40 years of age, and one °tithe coolest and most hardened villains, we think we have ever looked upon. Ile was con victed in one of our courts, not long since. for stab bing a man, and is at present under bail, for an assault and battery with intent to kill. Mrs. Reidel was about 2 years of age, and we think,an American by birth, and is represented by her neighbors as a very mild and amiable woman. She is, _we believe, from Cumberland county, in this State. The children, two boys and a girl. have been taken care of by the neighbors. RolllERT.—Three individuals, named David Irwin, W. Karr and Alexander Cargraavere. arrest ed on Sunday night and examiced by mayor Kerr yestenlay morning, charged with robbing Matthew H. Logan, of Robinson township. From the ir.- formation givertha Logan we learn that the iobbers entered 1773ffigrat Aout 3 eclock on Sunday afternoon and two held him down while the other tied him; they then chocked him until he informed therri where his money was; and af ter rifling the house of thirty dollars, a !flier watch and a pair of boots they decamped. Logan immediately came over to the city &nd lodged information against them and had warrants issued for their arrest. Karr implicates two oth ers, Allen Stubbs and Pat Keever, the officers were in hot pursuit of them yesterday, and from the manner in which officers REA, Fox, and Sewrr despatch business, we have no doubt but that they are already in custody. .Yesterday afternoon at 2 oclock. Santa Ana and Al o to lease Havana this day to resume in Mexico the away of which the former has been temporarily depri‘eil by the revolution of Paredes. We understand that Santa Ana did not originate the various outbreaks agaiust Paredes h ea base occurred, and even refused at first to place himself at the head'of his partisans. He de manded assurances that tlie troops at Vera Cruz at it should be unfurled in their vicinity, and these have been given him. His reluctance, or arected, to brace once more the storrnsof Mexican public life, having been iverrome, tie now commits him self to their chances• We have hardly a doubt of his success in over throwing Paredes. The Army which the latter is now impelling on Monterey will be glad of a pretext for avoiding the fatigues and privations of a long march under the midsummer son of the tropics, with the certainty of Fm.ere fighting at the end of it. They will ileclne for Santa Ana, in the secret hope of avoiding. by a revolution, the toils and privations now before them. Anoth er month will suffice to re-establish Santa Ana in power, at the head of a nominally releral Re public, but practically a central.zed despotism. DRIES.-50 malts cassia; t; dox.
