SONG FOR THE PEOPLE.
Ain—"l &mat That I dwelt in marble halls.'
I dreamt that 1 dwelt in marble halls,
With pimples and tan on my face;
And I thought thatat parties,lrstsoirees and halls,
I was termed a repulsive disgrace.
I had riches enough, but, alas! could not count
On possessirg a healthy skin;
Vet I thought that a whisper said, you may surmount
Disfigurements, be they hateful as sin. - 47
dreamt that suitors now sought my ham!,
Bat they all did repudiate my face;
For they cried, Though her features are formed mild
and bland,
The yellow neck and pimpled skin are disgrace,
Then I thought that I cried in a voice void ot hope,
"Core my pimples—make my skin white and Ior;'•
A voice answeed, "Use a cake of the JoNrs's Cuued
SOAP,
And your mind will be free from despair: ,
Then [ dreamt that I used it; 0, that moment ofbliss!
My skin changed from its yellowish hue;
My neck was mule clear, and my face made to kiss,
Thouglvan angel might claim it his due;
The pimples, the freckles, the blotches, the tan,
Had decamped, and a voice by my side
S rid, indeed you will now be the glory of man,
Ay, the virtue, the hope, and the pride.

AIR-. The fine old English Gentleman."
.1.11 sing yoga prime new Yankee song, made in a
Yankee state,
Of a fine old Yankee gentleman, who'd got a bald
old pate,
And who would not try to atop the same before it
got too late,
Bat used all sorts of useless stuff at a very expensisc
rate,
Like a line old Yankee gentleman, &c.
This fine old man was loved by all, was reverenced
by the fair,
But alas! he could not boast of wearing, his own
natural hair,
But was forced to wear a nasty wig, at which all men
did stare,
For his features all were noble, and his mind was
good, nut rare.
In a fine old Yankee gentleman, Etc.
At length this good old man Was told to go straight
off and give,
Three shillings for a bottle. of Jones' lima flrsro-
RATIVE
Which, thougl ' i the hair had long been dead, 'twould
force again to live,
And grow dark, soft, and beautiful, like a plant or an
olive,
On this fine old Yankee gentleman, Ste.
lie used but two small bottles, and his hair grew dark
nud long,
No dandruff filled the scalp, for the roots grew heal
th•, ay, and strong,
And he says at last he's found the right, though he's

The Tariffßill which passed the HOUEC of Rep
resentativespn Yriday last is now in the hands of
the Senate. The Washington Intelligencer, in ref
erence to the Committee of Finance of the Senate,
says:
"The number of Members voting Was forty-six,
ten members being absent, or having paired air
with actual absentees. Of the ten not present, or
not voting, six arc believed to be favorable to the
protective principle, mid four to be opposed to it.
All the BNi:dors being present, therefore, if this
impression be correct, the Senate will be equally
divided upon the principle of the bill."
The Intelligencer predicts that-the casting vole
on its passage or rejection will fall to the lot of
Vice President Pallas. It is believed the vote on
the bill in the Senate, will stand as follows:
States. Yea. Nay. States. Yea. Na y
Maine 1 Alabama 2 0
