The Prevailing Coughs and Colds.—The speed
iest, most popular, and only generally admitted
positive cure for coughs, colds, influenza, difficulty
of breathing, hoarseness, soreness of the chest, tick
ling in the throat, &c., is Glickener's Sngar-coated
Vegetable Purgative. Pills. They afford almost
immediate relief; and the most eminent of the fac
ulty recommend them exclusively in these di,e.tses.
To enhance their value, being coated with sugar.
they have no tast whatever of medicine, so that a
child can take them as easy as peppermint drops;
and then again they produce not the slighest sen
shtion of gripe or nausea. In short they are so
much superior to any other known medicine - that
a.single trial will make any person a patron of
them for life; and so assured is the proprietor of
this, and so.confident in their never-failing virtues,
that he will immediately return the money paid for
them Mall cases where they do not give the most
unlimited satisfaction.
Seld by Wm. Jackson, corner of Wood and Lib
erty streets, who is general Agent for Dr. Clicke
ner's Pills in Pittsburgh and vicinity.
ATI- Beware of an imitation article called "Im
proved sugar-Coated Pitts," purporting to be pat
ented, as both the pills and pretended patent are
forgeries, got up by a miserable quack in New
York, who, for the last four or five years, has male
his living by counterfeiting popular medicines.

You can have splendid—indeed, 'tis true!—

If the hair turns white or gray,
To cure the scurf, and make it dark
You've but three Bits to pay.
If your head is bald, the hair weak or falling.
• And you would have it live,
Why, try at once a bottle of Jones

Miracte—to cure Eruptions and beautify dis
colorediSkin.—A valuable discovery in Chemistry
has been made:lately by M. Vesprini, an Italian
Chemist, for curing all eruptions, and for changing
the color of dark, yellow or discolored skin to a
tine juvenile and youthful clearness. He has made
this in the convenient form of a beautiful piece of
Soap. For any old cases of eruption, such aS scur

also, freckles, tan, sunburn, morphew pimples,
blotches, &c.
See that lady, what a fright;
Jones's splendid Lily White
Would give her skin a natural aue.
But you note, in spite of talk,
She will use the common chalk;
Thus you see her face is blue.
If that same lady, and many others, had used
JONES'S Lily White,' her-face and cheeks would

ussikacconling to the directions, and found invaria
bly that' this medicine, caused the pain to abate in
three or four minutea, and infifteen or twenty min

The medicine was afterwards, used whenever indica
tions of the approach of pain were perceived, and
the pain was thereby prevented. He continued to
use the medicine every evening; and sometimes in the
morning, and in a few weeks health was so far re
stored, that the sufferer. -was:relieved' from a large

Carminative "balsam, as a salutary medicine for dis
eases of the stomach and bowels. A. SHINN.

SELLER'S celebrated liver pill's for the cure of the
Liver Complaint.
The proprietor of the above medicine aware of the
many instances in which the afflicted have been Im
posed upon by quack remedies, proclaimed to be
remedies for every disease, yet hopes that the Liver
Pill will not be placed in that class until they are
fairly tested.
It'is expressly stated, that persons who use these
pills, and find after following the given directions
that they have not becil benefitted, shall have their
money returned.
This is done that the public may see it is not the
purpose ofthe proprietor to speculate on their credu
lity, but to give at least an equivalent for their mo
ney.
In addition to the qualities mentioned, they are
highly recommended as Antibilious and Purgative
pills. jel9

News was anxiously expected from. Col; WilsOn's
expedition to Reinosa, as it is stated that Canales
and all his force, consisting of from twelve to
eighteen hundred cavalry, are concentrating there,
and will no doubt show fight. Col. Wilson's com
mand amount to about eight hundred,. He has
with him Desha's Mobile Volunteers„and Price's
Texan Rangers.
The news of Gen. Taylor's promotion to the
grade of Brevet Major General, has diffused joy
through all ranks. in the army and.in the States of
Texas.
The delegation from the Louisiana -Legislature
was to leave Point Isabel on the 7th inst i on their

luporlant Rumor from the .11rniy.—A letter, says
the New Orleans Tropic, of the 14th inst.,, has
been received in town, which states that Gen. A
rista has sent prOposals to Gen. Taylor for an ar
mistice.' and that he had established his headquar
ters at Monterey with 15,000 men. Gen. Taylor
is said tohave sent back an answer that "he would
meet Gen. Aristh at Monterey.' We have no doubt
of the truth of this
News from the Interior of Aferico.—A 'gentleman
largely concerned in business in Matamoros and
San Louis Potosi, arrived at Matamoros on the
sth inst.. direct from the latter named place. He
represents the news of the defeat of the Mexicans
has spread a wonderful alarm in "the interior,"
wherever it is announced. It is also stated that
the people resolutely refused to take arms against
the Mexicans. This news is confirmed by the ar
rival of another traveller from Tampico. who sta
ted that he met a "government express' . looking
after the Mexican army, with orders for it to retire
to Tampico.
Texan Cctvalry.—We were informed at Galves
ton, that Texas would send fifteen hundred mount
ed men to Matamoras. Three weeks ago, a gen
tleman traveling in Fayette and Washiqgton coun
ties, in a journey of fifty miles, met over five hun
dred men. This fifteen hundred does not include
seven companies now on the frontiers. Texas has
now over twenty-four hundred men in the field.—
Some of the mounted gunmen from Eastern Tex

to reach their place of destination.—Tropic.
..intinha Wishing to Learn.— Gen. Ampudia ex
pressed himself anxious to learn one thing of the
Americans, and said if he could do it he thoughthe
could make his soldiers fight better. The Ameri
can officer to whom he spoke, delighted with his
enquiring mind, asked him what he so much wish
ed to learn. He replied with great simplicity
•'learn to swear those big words tie Americans
talk at their soldiers."
Captain May's Sword.—Capt. May received his
sword, and immediately replied to the letter sent
with it. He expressed the greatest pleasure at the
compliment paid him by his fellow citizens of the
District of Columbia. We are surprised to letrn
that his letter has not been received in this city.

.SARSAPARILLA VEGETABLE BLOOD PILLB.—The
droprietor is obliged to manufacture them on a more
extensive scale than heretofore, and by a great im
provement in his machinery, can make them much
faster and with less labor, consequently less ex
pense, which enables him to sell 40 pills to the
box instead of thirty as heretofore. As a Spring
Purifier, these pills have no equal, and for purify
ing the blood, and purging and cleansing the stom
ach and bowels, they are the safest, best, and
most efficacious in existence. If pills are necessa
ry at all, Dr. Leidy's Blood Pills will effect all that
can be effected by any known pills in the world,
for all the virtues that can .be combined in pills
arc contained in them, and their established repu
tation is the best proof of it. No other Pills are
known to contain Sarsaparilla in them, and all
other Pills called by names nearly similar, are
manufactured only with a view to sell them on
the reputation of the true and genuine DR.
L EID Y' S SARSAPARILLA VEGETABLE
BLOOD PILLS, the first and original introduced
by such name.
Be cautious, therefore; ask for and take no oth
ers, and you will not be deceived in their effects;
whilst if you take of the spurious, or imitations,
you will not only be deceived by their effects,
which are °Mimes serious and dangerous, but de
ceived out of your money also.
'Male and female, young and old, can take them
at all times, in all diseases, without change of liv
ing, restraint from occupation, or fear of expo
sure to all weather—containing neither mercury,
minerals, nor any ingredient whatever that is un
friendly or dangerous to the constitution. Try
them, try them; if their effects do not confirm the
foregoing, their cost will be refunded by D. Leidy
upon satisfactory evidence of it.

HORSES in their care and transportation.
Will be exhibited at Pittsburgh on WEDNESDAY,
THURSDAY, FRIDAY and SATURDAY,JULY
Ist, 2d, 311 and 4th, for 4 days only, uner itheir
Enormous Pavillion, to be exhibited in the Mansion
House Yard, Liberty street. The different Exhi
bitions will take place as follows:
Wednesday July Ist; from 1 to 4 and 7to 10 P. M.;
Thursday and Friday, July 24 and 3d, from 9 to 12,
A. M., 1 to 4 and 7 to 10 P. M.; Saturday, July 4th,
there will be FOUR Exhibitions—at 9, A. M., 1, 3
and 7 P. M.
The Wild Tennets of the forest, from the huge and
docile elephant, the majestic Lion of unexplored Af
rica, the fierce tiger of the Dengatjungles the beau
tiful leopard, the playful but throcious bear, the gen
tle gazelle, the useful and patient camel, the curious
ly striped zebra, the grace robbing hyena, the steal
thy panther, the savage wolf, the conning fox
through all the lesser grades, are here beheld' with
safety, true to their nature at times, but p*fectly
subject to the control of man the lord of creation:
Fowls of the air and Rentiles, the most beautiful,
rare, various and dangerous of their species are also
comprised in this valuable combination; description
is powerless, and apace too limited to.admit it. Suf
fice it to say, that the proprietors are of the oldest
standing and highest celebrity, and have devoted
years of toil and expense to the recent collection,
which is pronounced in Europe and America, per
fectly unparallelled.
RAYMOND & WARING would suite that at tremen-,
dour; expense they have retained the services of the
celebrated, brave and powerfill.
lIERR DRIESBACII,
who is a native of Germany, and stands at the head
of all tamers of wild beasts. He has been styled by,
canes the lion tamer! as he has exposed his life be-.
fore this in taming the largest and most terrible lion'
ever caught. This lion is at present in the possession
of Raymond & Waring, and has repeatedly saved
the life of the intrepid Driesbach when .exercising
tigers, leopards and other beasts in the performing
cage.
Driesbach is the wonder of the world as a control
ler of beasts; his pet tiger's feats, together with'tliose
of the limis and leopards have been beheld by
lions. Driesbach actually drives lions harnessed in
his car, thus showing the supreme divinity of matt
above the nature of the brutes.
The moral and useful purposes which an exhibition
like this can serve, are perceived by all, and ac
knowledged by all moralists and thinking minds; This
exhibition serves to entertain and instruct every one
in the wondrous works of the Supreme Being, hnd is
particularly impressive on the minds of youth. The
whole menagerie is entirely imexceptiorrable..
RAYMOND & WAnING's splendid and formidable

LICKENER'S SUGAR COATED VEGETABLE
PILLS are the first and only Medicine ever
known that will positively cure
Headache, Giddiness, Measles, Salt Rheum,
Rheumatism, Piles, Heartburn, Worms . ,
Dispepsm, Scurvy, Cholera Morbus,
Small Pus, Jaundice, Coughs, Quinsy,
Pains in the Back, Whooping Cough,
Inward Weakness, Consumption, Fits,
Palpitation of the Ileart, Liver Complaint,
Rising in the Throat, Erysipelas, Deafness,
Dropsy, Asthma, "lettings of the Skin,
Fevers of all kinds, Colds, Gout, Gravel,
Female Complaints, Nervous Complaints,
And all other d.seases originating from impurities of
the blood. . .
_
They have cured, since the:r introduction,
over 2,000 persons, who have been given up as hope
less cases, by the most eminent Physicians.
10 - They are patronized and recommended by
men of the highest distinction, among whom are—
lion. David R. Porter, lion. Henry Clay,
lion. John Q. Adams, lion. Daniel Webster,
lion. Martin Van Buren, Lion. J. C. Calhoun,
Gen. Winfield Scott, Col. 11. M. Johnson,
lion. James E. Polk, Gen. Lewis Cass.
CC - Their virtues are so infallible that the money
will be returned in all cases they do not give 'Univer
sal satisfaction. Although but two and a half years
have elapsed since these celebrated Pills were first
introduced to the public, the sale of them in the
Eastern and middle States has far exceeded Dr.
Clickener's most sanguine expectations. During the
past year, alone, no less than 10,000 gross of'boxes
have been sold in the State of New York, 6,000 in
Penn Sylvania, 4,000 in Maryland, 3,000 in New Jer
sey, 2,000 in Delaware, and 9,000 in the New England
States, requiring the constant employment of 27
hands, exclusive of printers and engravers. In the
same period, upwards of 200,000 copies of the
"Family Doctor" have, been ordered by agents in
every Section of the country. These facts must
show, conclusively, that Dr. Clickener's Sugar Coat
ed Pills, besides being the very best medicine in the
world, are held in the highest estimation by the public.
We might extend this publication to an indefin
ite length, if we deemed it expedient to publish all
tersimonials we have received, not only from agents
but individuals and families, who have experienced
the benficial effects of Clickener's Sugar Coated
Pills, but we deem it unnecessary. The most in
contestible evidence of their unprecedented success,
are the numberless Imitations and Counterfeits which
have already appeared, notwithstanding the brief pe
riod they have been before the public. Even some
of our staunchest pill makers have had the audacity
to imitate the Capsule of Sugar, in order to disguise
the ingredients of their' vile compounds, and palm
them off for the "real Simon pure." Such paltry
shifts cannot last long without exposing their hideous
deformity. Truth and honesty must inevitably pre
rail over rascality and deception.
For sale in Pittsburgh by WM. JACKSON, at his
Patent Medicine Warehouse, No. 89,phorty , street,
head of Wood st., Pittsburgh. Price, 25c. per bnx.
Dr. Clichoner's principal office is 81 Barclay'street,
New York.
1" Beware of an imitation article called Im
proved Sugar Coated Pills, purporting to be patented,
as both the pills and the pretended patent are for
geries, got up by a. miserable quack in New York,
who, for the last four or five years, has made his
living by counterfeiting popular medicines.
1):7' Remember, Dr. C. V. Clickener is the original
inventor of Sugar Coated Pills, and that nothing of
the sort was ever heard of until he introduced them
in June, 1843. Purchasers should, therefore, always
ask for Clickener's Sugar Coated Vegetable Pills, and
take no other, or they will be made the victims of a
fraud. . ' mav 9

OFFICE. NO. 21 MARKET STREET.
P HE citizens of Pittsburgh continue to be offered
j_ an opportunity to effect insurance upon their
property, by a Domes* institution located among
themselves, based upon domestic capital, and con
ducted by directors, in Whose prudence, integrity and
good faith they can readily ascertain whether they
may repose that undoubted security which should
ever attend' an assurance transaction.
To persons whose properlyhas already been dam
aged or destroyed by fire or water, the advantage of
personally adjusting the loss with an institution AT
HOME; will be strikinglyi evident. To those who suffer
ed by the Great Fire, this particular corporation needs
no recommendation. !The prompt payment of the
whole amount of its iOSSOSS—.ITEAHLT TWO HUICDHED
THOIISAND DOLLARS--islo them a sufficient guarantee
of future security.'
It is the part of all prudent men, however fortu
nate, to anticipate calamity forth° purpose of avoid
ing its effects. To such as hive hitherto escaped, as
well as to those who have sustained loss, the facility
of protection and indemnity, offered by this institu
tion, will be the strongest inducement to avoid the
reflections and regreth which must be experienced
by those who suffer without hope of restitution.
