HIGHLY IMPORTANT NetVS FROM nit
SOUTH.—The following extract of a letter is
from 1 very respectable Mercantile House, dated
Wasumorort, Rappahannock C0.,,Va.,
May 213, 1546. 5
Demi Stst:--Ctur. Mr. Jones has been in a very low
state of health for more than a year; he has had the
benefit of the best medical advice our country af
fords, and also visited your city during last summer,
but found no relief. On the 15th day of April last
we purchased half a dozen bottles of your TONIC
VERMIFUGE, and half a dozen boxes of SANA
TIVE PILLS. Through carelessness in packing the
articles in a dry goods box, one half the Vermifuge
was broken. Mr. Jones commenced with the pills,
and after taking a few doses '
felt a decided improve
ment. The three bottles of Vermifuge which came
safe to band, brought from him, he thinks, not less
than ONE THOUSAND WORMS, and perhaps many
sore. He is now in better health than ho has been
in for years. and we hope a few more bottle' of year
Vermifuge and Pills will effect a permanent cure.—
All our physicians have entirely mistaken his case,
Prof. Samuel Jackson, of your oity,at the head. As
to our responsibility, we have to refer you to Messrs.
Inskip, Molen & Woodruff, Silk House, Market
near Fourth, and Hieskell, Hoskins & Co., corner or
Fifth and Market sta. Mr. Jones is most anxious to
get more of your Pills and Vermifuge as soon as poa.

MAZATLAN AND TEPEC DECLARED FOR
By last sight's Southern mail, says the Balti
more Sun, , we received a slip from the office of the
Mobile Herald &Tribune,- of the Sth hist., cork
taming the following interesting news:
The U.i S. steamship Mississippi; Captain Fitz
bight,' arrived at Pensacola on Friday last, the 4th
inst., having. sailed:from Vera Cruz on the 31st ul
timo. She brought as, passengers, J. Parrott, Esq.,
late American Ccinslul at Mazatlan; F. M. Dimond,
Esq.. late Consurtitthe city
,of Mexico,
.and D.
Wood, of the U. S. Navy, bearer of important des.
patches to-our Government, from Corn. Sloat, com
manding die Pacific squadron. Seven.other Amer
icans from 'Mexico also arrived - in the Mississippi..
Mr. Parrott, Mr. Dimon and Dr. Wood arrived
here on Sunday—the latter named gentleman has
tened on fp Washington with the despatches.
• The only political news of importance which
we gather from these gentlemen is that Mazatlan
and Tepee bad declared for Santa Ann, and it was
generallythought there that he would be recalled.
The cause{ of the revolutionary movement was un
derstood not to be connected with the Texas ques
tion, as Was the case in former revolutions.
The news of the battles of the Sth and 9th were
received at. Mexico on the 11th ult. Ou the 19th
the papers announced that a battle had been fought
in which! the Mexicans had acted like "Lons."—
This .announcement did not prove sufficiently ex
plicit for the populace, who after waiting some
days for the publication of the official account,
made such demonstrations against the Government
as tojeave-no room for doubt that a "revolution"
was. meditated—to prevent which on the 25th,
Paredes sent the dispatch of Arista to the Govern
ment organ for publication. Great excitement
prevalietr—druens were immediately beat through
out the city for volunteers; and maledictions a
gainst the Americans were uttered throughout the
city.
Mr. Dimond informs us that all the American.,
except those employed in the factories, either had
left the country or were prepairiztg to do so imme.
diataly.
Capt..Gregory,.now commander of the blocka
ding torte, had restored the two Mexican vessels
which had been captured off Vera Cruz, by' the
squadmn. lie addressed a letter to Geri. Bravo, of
Vera Cruz, saying that he had released the vessels
in consideration of the fact that the Mexican author
ities had permitted two American vessels to depart
unmolested oilk.-equent to the notice of the block
ride.

The American ships of war at Vera Cruz are: i

Princeton has also arrised. The bt. Marys is
blockading Tampico.
The Somers has been sent to Campeachy to as

all the 'other American tassels had left the port of I
Vera Cruz.. . I
From 31r.' Parrott. axe learn that he met the I,
news of the Capture of Captain Thornton and the I
commencement of hostilities. at Gandelaxara. I
' Upon inquiry at the pan office he lcanied that the i
i government had not expres.sej the news. Mr. P. 1
immediately employed a trusty person to carry
despatches containing all the parties try ctosible
to be obtained, to Commodore liluat, lying at Ma
i' titian with his squadron. This express would
reach Corn. S. Gie days in advance of ail ether
, comintinications. and thefe can be no d.oubt that
ere this our flag is waving over the walls of :4:n

The Er't.sh force at the same date, consisted of
the Cid{ ingwood. 7U gino; Talbot, 2rt: Juno, 2?',;
brig Spyr tin ler. 3; and the brig Frolic at Guaya
mast, Inking in treasure for England, .
It Oran repored that other British ships of war
were to rendezvous at Mazdtlan, but none others
had arrived.
But little doubt exists at Mazatlan and among
the officers of the squadron, that the British Ad
miral' has inntrnctions not to allow the American
l squadron to take possei , siott of any Mexican ports
lon the P::ic...fic, If this supposition Phauld prove
correct. the next news from the Pacific will be of
the most highly twain; character —as there can
not exist e doubt that Corn. Stoat will take po-•

some time Com. S. has bad irrstractions to seize all
Mexican ports on that toast, whenever he should
reccvie reliable news ot the commencement of lg.

THE citizens of Pittsburgh continue to be offered
an opportunity to effect insurance upon their
property, by a Domestic institution located among
themselves, based upon domestic capital, and con
ducted by directors, in whose prudence, integrity and
good frith they can readily ascertain whether they
may repose that undoubted security which aboula
ever attend an assurance transaction.
To persons - whose property has already been dam
aged or destroyed by fire or water, the advantage of
personally adiusting, the loss with an institution AT
ROWE, will be strikingly evident. To those who suffer
ed by the Great Fire, &is particular corporstion needs'
no recommendation. 'The prompt payment of the
whole amount of its lossess--nvintx TWO HUNDRED
ritommspoom , Ann—le to them a sufficient guarantee
of future security.
It is the part of all.prudent men, however fortu
nate, to anticipate calamity for the purpose of avoid
ing its effects. To such as have hitherto escaped, as
well as to those who have sustained loss, the facility
of protection and indemnity, offered by this institu
tion, will be the strongest inducement to avoid the
reflections and regrets which must be erperiencod
by those who suffer without hope of restitution.

0:7 - Their virtues are . so infallible that the money

sal satisfaction: Although butivio and a half years
have elapsed since these celebrated Pills were first
introduced to the public, the Sale of them in the
Eastern and middle States has fat exceeded . Dr.,

past year, alone, no less than 10,000 gross' of boxes
have been sold it the State of New York, 6,ooo'in
Penutylvania, 4,000 in garylind, 3,000 in New Jer

States, requiring the constant • employment' of 27
hands, eXcltisive of print* and engravers: In the
same period, upwards of 200,000 copies of the
"Family Pester" have been ordered by agents in
every acetic:at:yr the country: These 'facts must
showy conclusitrelv, that Dr. Clickenees Sugar Coat
ed Pills, besides tieing the very best medicine in the
world, are held in the highest estimation by the public.
We naight extend this' publioation' to , an indefin
ite length, if we deemed it expedient to publish all
tersimonials we have received, not only from agents
but individuals and families; who have experienced
the benficial• effects of ' Clickeneris Sugar Coated
Pills, but we deem it unnecessary. The Most in
contestable evidence of their unprecedented success,
are the numberless Imitations and Counterfeits which
have already appeared, notwithstanding the brief pe
tied. they have been before the . publie. Even some
' of our Staunchest pill makers have bad the audacity'
to imitate the Capsule of Sitar, in order to disguise
the ingredients of their vile compounds, and palm
them off for the "real shnou pure." Such paltry
shifts cannot last long without exposing their hideous
deformity. Truth and honesty must inevitably pre
vail over rascality and deception. •
