To Mothers.—The difficulty which every mother
experiences in Administering medicine to infants,
is entirely obviated by Dr. Clickner's preparation,
called the Sugar-Coated Vegetable Purga'ive Pill.
The pill is encrusted with fine white sugar, so that
it resembles and tastes like a sugar plum, which
,no child ever yet refused to swallow. For worms
;this is an assured remedy, and it has been used
with excellent effect in cases of teathing. The
matron of the Farm School writes to Dr. Clicke.
,ner, that she has used for some time, his Sugar-coa
ted Pill in both these complaints, and always with
motire success.
Sold by Wm. Jackson, corner of Wood and Lib
erty streets, who is general Agent for Dr. Clicke
ner's Pills in Pittsburgh and vicinity.
al. Beware of an imitation article called "lin
yrmed Sugar-Coated Pills," purporting to be pat
ented, as both the pills and pretended patent are
forgeries, got up by a miserable quack in New
York, who, for the last four or five years, has made
his living by counterfeiting popular medicines.

JI Miracle—to cure Eruptions and beautify dis

has been made lately by i%L Vesprini, an Italian
Chemist, for curing all eruptions, and for changing
the color of dark, yellow or discolored skin to a
line juvenile and youthful clearness. He has made
this in the convenient form of a beautiful piece of

BY LAST NIGHT'S MAIL.
FIVE DAYS LATER FROM MEXICO.
OFFICE OF TUE PICAYUNE,
Tuesday morning, June 7th.
By the arrival of the barque Louisiana, Capt.
Williams, we have adviees from Vera Cruz to the
25th ult., five days later than those brought by the
theatis. The Louisiana sailed.in compaey with
the Helen M'Leod, leaving no American Merchant
vessel in port.
The brig Petersburgh for New York, got away
'6II the 20th. The blockade of the port df Vera
Cruz, commenced on the 20th. Fifteen days were
allowed to all neutral vessels in port to load and
depart. By orders from the Mexican government,
the American consul's office was to be closed and
lie and all American citizens were to leave by the
26th. On that day the consul expected to go on
board the steam frigate Mississippi.
This frigate and the Raritan, were at anchor off
Vera Cruz on the 25th, and thasloop of war Fal
mouth was lying oft the port. The Louisana and
Helen al - Leed got off in great haste to prevent be
im, seized. The day they sailed news reached Ve
ra7Cruz, that Mazatlan and Tipic had pronounced
in favor of Santa Ana. General Alvarez was still
carrying on his hostile operations in the south part
of the department of Mexico.
A report was in circulation that Gen. Paredes
intended to leave the city of Mexico, at the head
of more troops, to reinforce the army of the north.
The animosity existing against the Americans
has been violently increased by the news of the
two actions of the ath and 9th ult. The enormous
forced loans which the government haul imposed
upon the clergy, the latter had declared itself to
tally inadequate to inert. The Metropolitan
Church was ordered to furnish a subsidy of $98,-
000 per month; the Church of Michoacan $35,000,
adfd Puebla $10,000; of Guadalajara $20,000; of Du-
Wag° $15,000. and of Oajaca $B,OOO. These
toad sums per month show that the President is
determined to prosecutathe war with energy, He
will never he able to collect such loans.
Senor Gomez Farrias so well known here, has
been arrested by the Government. General Al
monte has made a formal resignation of Ma mis
sion to France- In regard to the report as 'to Pa
redes putting himself at the head of the army, El
Requblicano says it is uncertain whether he will
repair to the Rio Grande or to Vera Cruz; kut that
he will leave the capital as soon as Congress as
sembles. Full accounts of the disastrous actions
of the Sth and 9th had reached the capital,- and ap
peared in the official journal.
They are more accurate by far than Ilexican
bulletins generally. and do credit to Aristi,
The news was received with profound; regret,
hut with an apparent determination to fight the
war out.

V 111 K citizens of Pittsburgh continue to be offered
an opportunity to effect insurance upon their
property, by a Domestic institution located among
themselves, based upon domestic capital, and con

may repose that undoubted security which should
ever attend an assurance transaction.
To persons whose property has already been dam

personally adjusting the loss with an institution AT

no erroinmendation. The prompt payment of the

It is the part of all prudent men, however fortu

well as to those who have sustained loss, the facility
of protection and indemnity, offered by this institu

CL IC KEN ER'S SUGAR COATED VEGETABLE
PILLS are the. first and only Medicine Over
known that will positively cure
Headache, Giddiness, Measles, Salt Rheum,
Rheumatism, Piles, Heartburn, Worms,
Diapepsia, Scurvy, Cholera Morbus,
Small Pox, Jaundice, Coughs, Quinsy,
Pains in the Back, Whooping Cough,
Inward Weakness,. Consumption, Fits,
Palpitation of the Heart, Liver Complaint,
Rising in the Throat, Erysipelas, Deafness,
Dropsy, Asthma, ltchings of the Skin,
Fevers of all kinds, Colds, Gout, Gravel,
Female Complaints, Nervous Complaints,
And all other diseases originating from impurities of
the blood.
- They have cured, since their introduction,
over 2,000 persons, who have been given up as hope
less cases, by the most eminent Physicians.
;Kr They are patronized and recommended by
men of the highest distinction, among whom are—
lion. David R. Porter, lion. Henry Clay,
Hon. John Q. Adams, Hon. Daniel Webster,
Hon. Martin Van Buren, Hon. J. C. Calhoiin;
Gen. Winfield Scott, Col. R. M. Johnson;
Hon. James K. Polk, Gen. Lewis Cass.
I:Cr Their virtues are so infallible that the money
will be returned in all cases they do notgive tfttifer
sal satisfaction. Although but two and a half years
have elapsed since these celebrated Pills were first
introduced to the public, the sale of there in the
Eastern and middle States has far exceeded Dr.
Clickenees most sangtfint expeetations: Euring the
past year, alone, no less than 10,005 guess bf boxes
have been sold in the State of New York, 5,000 in
ni
Pennsylvaa; 4,000 in Maryland, 3,000 in New Jer
sey, 2,000 in Delaware; and 41,000 in the Row England
States, requiring the constant employment of 21
hands, exclusive of printers and engravers. In the
tante period; upwards of 200,000 copies of the
"Family Doctor" have been ordered by agents in
every section of the country. These facts must
show: conclusively, that Dr. elickener's Sugar Coat
bd Shills, being the very best medicine in the
world, are held in the highestestimation by the public.
We might extend this publication to an indefin
ite length, if we deemed it expedient to publish all
tersimonials we have received, not only from agents
but individuals and families, who have experienced
the benficial effects of Chickener's Sugar Coated
Pills, but we deem it unnecessary. The most in
contestible evidence of their unprecedented success,
are the numberless Imitations and Counterfeits which
have already appeared, notwithstanding the brief pe
riod they have been before the public. Even some
of our staunchest pill makers have had the audacity
to imitate the Capsule of Sugar, in order to disguise
the ing4dients of their vile compounds,
and palm
them off for the "reel simon pure." Such paltry
shifts cannot last long without exposing their hideous
deformity. Truth and honesty must inevitably pre
vail over rascality and deception.
For sale in Pittsburgh by Wl l .l. JACKSON, at his
Patent Medicine Warehouse, No. 89, Liberty street,
head of Wood st., Pittsburgh. Price, 25c. per box.
Dr. Clickences principal office is 81 Barclay street,
New York.
C' llverare of an imitation article called Im
proved Sugar Coated Pills, purporting to be patented,
as both the pills and the pretended patent are for
geries, got up by a miserable quack in New York,
who, for the last fear or five years, has made his
living by counterfeiting popular medicines.
ca. Remember, Dr. C. V. Clickener is the original
inventor of Sugar Coated Pills, and that nothing of
the sort was ever heard of until he introsuced them
in June, 1843. Purchasers should, therefore, always
ask for Click.enees Sugar Coated Vegetable Pills, and
take no other, or. they will be made the victims of a
fraud. may 9_
