It was now reduced to a certainty, that in - fiamation of the lungs was rapidly taking place; and that this would terminate my life in a very short time, was in the highest degree probable. At this critical stage, a messenger was despatched to Cincinnati, and a celebrated Physician of that place was consulted. When he was made acquaint ed with my situation, he remarked that nothing could be done by medical aid, lithe constitution itself was not sufficient to throw off - the - than:sc.— My friends now despaired of my recovery, and I had no earthly ground of hope to survive many clays. Fortunately at this juncture, I saw one of Dr. Wis taes Pamphlets, entitled "Family Medical Guide," or "Treatise on Consumption of the Lungs." As I had often heard of dying men "catching at straws," I felt this doing so myself. By the consent of my Physicians, I sent to you for a bottle of the medicine described viz: "Wistar's Balsam of Wild Cherry," which relieved me almost immediately. Atter I had used some five or six bottles I so fat trey:meted as to be vp and about. Mr cough ceased, and mydungs were restored to a healthy state—all from OTC heal ing and balmy influence and powerful rir- Ines of IVistnr , s Balsam. Were it not from the external injury I received in my shoulder and arm by the explosion, I feel confi dent that I might have been working at my trade (which is blacksinithing,) but this has prevented. By exposure, I have since taken several severe colds, and my only remedy has been "the balsam." And I now most cordially recommend the genuine Wistar's Balsam to all who arc afflicted with Colds, Coughs, or Lung Complaints. I consider it sn inval uable„medicine--a real blessing to the world. WISTAIPS BALSAM OF WILD CHERRY, always triunt phant! cure follows cure in its onward victorious career! • Darrori, Feb, 11th, 1815. W. Whitmore.—Dear Sir: As youare the reg ular authorized agent in Dayton, for the sale of "Dr. Wistarsilalsain of Wild Cherry," I take this meth od of making a statement of facts to you (which I hope may be e ublished to the world) in reference to an almost miraculous cure, wrought in my case by means of the above Incaluqble Balsam. Language fails to describe the salutary effects it pro ' duced, and the great benefit I derived from its use. The citizens of Dayton and vicinity, well recol lect that on the Bth of Angustlast, I received seri ous injury from the explosion of a cannon. A por tion of its contents entered my right side and breast; and in all probability, sonic fragments or splinters of the ram-rod passed through the , •plura," and pierced the Lungs. After the lapse of about six weeks, I was attacked with a distressing coughand a riolent pain in my right side. Some ten days after this when in a par oxysm of coughing, suddenly and VICES broke, and a lame quantity of very offensive matter, mixed with * blood, was discharged; most of which found passage through the opening of the wound. From this epening there frequently passed a quantity of air, supposed to issue from the lungs. During all this time my sufferings were almost intolerable. My physicians, meanwhile paid the strictest atten tion to me, and did all in their power for any recov ery. But with all their skill they could not reach the seat of distress, after the Lungs had become affect ed. I was visited during this time by at least twenty Physicians. Although but two and a half years have elapsed since these Celebrated Pills were first introduced to the public, the sale of them in the Eastern and middle States has far exceeded Dr. Clickener's most sanguine expectations. During the past year, alone, no less than 10,000 gross of boxes have been sold in the State of New York, 6,000 in Pennsylvania,-1,000 in Maryland, 3,000 in New Jer sey, 2,000 in Delaware, and 9,000 in the New England States, requiring the constant employment of 27 hands, exclusive of printers and engravers. In the same period, upwards of 200,000 copies of the "Family Doctor" have been ordered by agents in every section of the country. These facts must show, conclusively, that Dr. Clickeners Sugar Coat ed Pills, besides tieing the very best medicine in the world, are held in the highest estimation by the public We might extend this publication to an indefin ite length, if we deemed it expedient to publish all tersimonials vre have received, not only from agents hut individuals and families, who have experienced the benficial effects of Clickener's Sugar Coated , Pills, but we deem it unnecessary. The most in comestible evidence ortheir unprecedented success, are the numberless Imitations and Counterfeits which have already appeared, notwithstanding the brief pe riod they have been before the public. Even some of our staunchest pill makers have had the audacity to imitate the Capsule of Sugar, in order to disguise the ingredients of their rile compounds, and palm thole off for the "real simon pure." M. ALLEN, President. ' ~, ~~+ y am ,r ~'~~~~~, o the Inhabitants of Pittsburgh, sine.. gheny'xind the surrounding. Country. IT was'not our desire to enter into any dispute with the “Pekin Tea Company." We did not begin the controversy—we deprecate a paper war, or any other war, and profess ourselves to be advocates of universal peace; but when we found statements made to the public with such unblushing disregard to truth as was exhibited in the Pekin Tea Company's attack upon our establishment, we considered . it a duty We owed to that public, as well as to ourselves, to repel it by a plain statement of forts. The moral qualifications or some people are So convenient that they can believe any thing that they like—or what is the same thing, by putting a good Cue upon a fabrication, and repeating it three or four times, they are enabled tp assume all 'the earnestness and sincerity of truth, and notwithstanding the ex travagance of their statements, and their total oppo sition to facts, their neighbors are called very ' , ill mannered" if they presume to question or doubt their veracity. Thus though is stated that five hundred thousand dollars worth of Black Tea was imported by the Pekin Tea Company, we suppose we must swallow it at once, or incur , their displeas ure;' bet we cannot help being reminded of the story of a "thousand black cats," which a boy declared he saw upon the garden wall, which, upon inquiry, dwindledslown to his father's old torn cat and anoth er; and-we suspeet that these fi ve hundred thousand dollars worth of black tea, if a similar test was ap plied, would diminish it in about the same propor tion. And yet the agent declares that no mysteries are presented .! They have an agent at Pekin, but he is ineng. They have another at Canton, but he is Luridly unknown; and at New, York they receive eaOO,W worth of black tea, which every body at the Custom House is ignorant of! Now we confess that these things appear so strange to us—so exceedingly mysterious, as to shock our credulity not a little, and at thrisk of being still considered gill mannered.- we must persist in clashing such announcements With the quackeries and hunibligs of the day. It was also stated that the Canton Tea Company was imitators of them; or in other word:, that allured by their success, we had been induced to organize our present establishinent=whereas, in point of fiiet, we had, as already stated, carried on our business successfidly FOcik YEARS before the Pekin Tea Company was heard or! And without arrogating to ourselves auy great degree of sagacity dr penetra nun we may Yeutute to assert that it was the Unpar alelled success of the Canton Tea Company, the Uni versal celebrity of their teas, and the Increasing do , mind fur the same, that gave birth to the Pekin Ted Company, and inlfabt that the very existence of that establishment is an . acknowledgement of the supe r riority of our methdd of business, and of the prefer ence we have obted. 1 Many other statehrents, equally unfounded, we have already examined, and the audacity displayed lin these specimens will sufficiently show the degree lof reliance to which any other statements from the Pekin Tea Company are entitled. Apart from the higher obligation of truth, we have always considered it bail policy to resert to any un fair means. In order to sustain our own character we have never found it necessary to' detract our neighbor's, or to write our . own panegyrics and then attempt to palm them . off upon the public as the dis interested notices of editors of newspapers, which it is well known might easily be done without any fur ther bribery than paying for them as advertisements. That the Pekin Tea Company thought fit to adopt a different course was no concern of ours, and we should not have interfered with their proceedings it' they had left us unmolested. But they hail probably forgotten the proverb, "those who live . in glass houses should not fling atones." Nearly six years have elapsed Since 1.4 t: Canton Tea Crimp:my com menced operations in this city; and as might base been anticipated, they hare had 'to encounter the prejudices of the ignorant Os well as to experience the grossest misrepresentations of envious and inter ested parties. Hitherto we have only smiled at their puny assaults which have only recoiled upon the parties themselves—we have confidently relied upon the intrinsic merits of our own Teas, and we hare every reason to be proud of the result. Despairing, therefore, of any success in this vicinity, this rival establishment is obliged to carry its fabrications to a distance, rind then, by pompous annoucements on the one hand, (which it well knows would be laughed at here,) and a disparagement of the Cantrin Tea Com pany on the other, where the facts are not known, it hopes to impose u pon the unwary. A greater proof , of its having calculated upon the ignorance of the, community need not be adduced than the fact of their agents presuming to institute a comparison re specting the localities and dimensions of the ware houses of the two establishments, when it is well known that the single branch of the Canton Tea Co. at 163 Greenwich st. wouid more than compare with the small store it has contented itself with until a very recent period, situated as it was in the most obscure part of Fulton street, and with the present addition it has made, nu one would think of comparing, it with the splendid store the Canton Tea Company have just opened at 125 Chatham st. The value of proper ty in the localities will show the esfunation of busi ness men, and their decision has been pronounced too long and too emphatically in favor oh the locali ties of the Canton Tea Company, to require any The Canton Tea Company have never pretended to import all the teas that they dispose of, for the single reason that a cargo of teas must necessarily be made up of many inferior sorts, many of which are un wholesome and never bind the way into their estab lishment. 'They prefer selecting their stock rpm the whole of the cartons cargoes that arrive friaint' time to time, and from their long experience in this coun try and in Europe, as well as their unlimited com mand of capital, they have always ,been enabled to secure the delicious teas for which they have beconle so justly celebrated, and at prices, that hare defied competition. It is this notorious fact that has exci ted the ire of so many parties, and we should doubt less have escaped the wrath of our neighbors of the Pekin Tea Company, if they had not so well under stood as well as felt its truth, In conclusion we will only add that we entertain no ill feeling toward the Pekin Te:L Company; but w e earls them against circulating thlsehoods at our expense—sooner or later it must come to our knOwl edge, as we have now agencies throughout the Union, and they may rely oil it that we shall not fail lo ex pose them in uhatecer quarter they are carried.
