'FOR CANAL CONMISSIONEN
WILLIAM B. FOSTER, JR,
OF BRADFORD COUNTY
are THE RIGHT tn , WAN bill, we learn, has been
approved and ajgned by the Governor.
tr:r The editor of tho Gazette opposed with groat
violence, last fall,a proposition to hold a convention for
2.,ilie ply pose
. of giving expreision to thO views of the
people of Pennsylvania on the Tariff questien. This
be will not:dare deny, because the fact is well knoWn
to., tbepeopleof this county. i!low, howester,we find him
daily ieliiug upon the people to rally to the rescue; and
we ure - daily called upon by theeditur to speak out on
t he - question. At the time when much good could
have been effected, we frankly defined our position—
. we. w hesiteriou, declared. in fever of the policy
of givingroderpude, fOir and just protection to ail time
greet inietelts of the nation. in opposition to this
"weft timed and in every-point of view judicious move
ment, stood the editor of the Gazette. exerting all the
Anfluentx width' his power to defeat it; he then argued
that the 4higs were without influence ut Washington
T . . city, and thetefore, ought to fold Owl: at ms and stand
aloof. Now, however, we find him CAW/ling ano patty
movement; we find him calling upon the people with
~.oulViitinction of , patty, to cant' ibute specimens and

Well, what is to be effected by time present no party
rnovement. which finds so much favor will time Guzette?
Why, Congress is to be placed in poisession of correct
information in
.reference to the manufactures of the
countey. for die purpa* we presume, of convincing
that blulythet if the present prosperity of ti-e country
I, 'is to be continued, adequate, fair and equal protection
must be *given by the revenue laws to all the great in
terests of the 'nation. The Convention which the
4..izettc editor so violently opposed last full, it is well
known. helmrt view precisely the same object.
-11 the editor has discovered that he was in error
last fall, he should frankly say se; having changed his
ground he ought certuinly to give some explanation of
his conduct; and make a propel apology to lois party
.frlonds for hosing at grossly deceived them: Now
that 'tom editor md . the Gazette finds his party friends
with great unanimity revering a Ile pally mm.vemeni,
and thus in effect declaring that time Tariff is not a
pd. is qaeslion, weare not surprised nt time effort which
he is making to direct public attention from the gin
ring inconsistency Which has marked his own course on
this question. If we mistake not he was even ready
to romlthi - coadjutor of the "Commercial Journal"

movement of lost fall—to the editor of that paper he
now'owes an etiology which ought unhesitatingly tube

notice of the action of the Senate we referred to the
thirty Senators swho voted to substitute the resolution
offered by Mr Johnson for those of the House of Rep
resentatives. We stated the vote correctly, it stood 30
to 24. If the editor of the Gazette will again
mita the trouble to examine the matter be will find
that we were neither mistaken as to the vote, nor as
to•the naine of the Senator aho offered them. .We

Dreadful Aecident.—On Tuesday of hint week, a
son of Mr Samuel Mosser, of West township, in this
county, aged about 11 yews, was engaged in harrow
ing a field that had been sown in oats, when his horses
took fright, it is supposed, from one of the swinele
trees coating unhooked from the butt chain, When
the horses commenced running, the boy being greatly
frightened, leaped from thomear horse which he was
riding, but unfortunately did not get a way from them
far enough and the harrow struck his forehead and
tore and fractured his skull to an alarming extent. A
part of his brains were picked up about fifteen fu et
from v.lhere he was lying. We have not learned
whether he is yet dead, but it is supposed that he can
in no event recover.—Huntingdon Messenger.
