thor, Mr Samuel Young, of this city. We have nut
had time to give it a reading. but have heard it highly
spoken of by those who have perused it. As soon as
we can find time to give it a reading, we will speak
full of its merits.

SIXTEEN DAYS LATER.—By the arrival at Havana
of the British steamship Tweed, from Vera Ct us, ad•
vices from the latter city to the 30th November, and

prior advices were brought by the U S sloop of war

MUST UNFORTUNATE
We understand that there has been a very serious.
destroction of coal boats above. During the flue
weather we I itchy were favored with, Mr Pomeroy or
dere,' five boat loads, 2000 bushel of coal, from
above, the w hole cf which is now in the bottom of the
Ohio river, except one load which lies at the wharf.—
' This, however, was sunk yesterday, by the ice cutting
the boat, and so sudden was the operation that a man
aboard crime very near losing his life. The coal can.
not be got out till the liver falls.

There is a story that negotiations were re-commen
ced, last Wednesday, between Mr Buchanan and Mr-
Pakanham. I have prnty good reasons for believing
it is byte story.
RIVER INTELLIGENCE
The Cincinnati Union of the 20th says: The River
is declining slowly—having receded within the las t
twentyfoar hours from six to eight inches—leaving
in the channel opposite this city, about 8A feet water,
and hence, to Louisville-9A feet water. The ice is
floating down in heavy masses, and should the present
cold weather continue 94 hours longer, it will on-1
doubtedly, put a stop to river nnvigation.
