Ftar—INCEMPIART ISIC—The alarm of fire about
12 o'clock on Monday night. was cau.ed by the burn
ing of a barn about five miles from this city on the
Washington road. Ihe form, the property of Peter
Roan, was in the tendency of Mr. Eli Frew, ethos..
loss is übuut $lOOO in oats, wheat, farming utent.ils,
and four horses that perished in the fi.mes. The
farm-bootie wan in imminent danger, and the slightest
variation in the direction of the wind, would have in
volved its destruction also. There is no doubt what
ever, that it was the work of an incendiary, as there
had been rie light or fire used in or about the burn fur
a long time past.

BY LAST NIGHT'S MAIL.
A most terrific whirlwind passed through the nor
them port of the county of Orleans, New York, onl
Saturday week, which, fur its magi - diode and extent
of devastation, was perfectly fr ightfol. It commenc
ed nt Johnson's Creek, in Niagara county,took a nut do
enst course through the towns of Yates end Carlton,
in the county of Orient-r, and spent its fury in the
lake. It is reported that its truck is some 160 rods
wide, and 17 or '2O miles in length. Hoge forem
trees were twisted from their trunks and hurled in
mid-air like feathers. Orchards are uprooted, barns
and houses unroofed, and many so completely des
troyed as to leave scarce a wreck behind. Sonic of
