HY LAST NIGHT'S MAIL. , • NIA ( • FROM MEXICO The Washington Union of the 9th snys:—We lay before our renders this evening a considerable mass of news, which has been received at New Orleans from Mexico. It certainly does not look very war like; but in this state of uncertainty, with an unstable a government, and such fluctuating councils, it is still proper fur us to continue "the armor and attitude de manded by the et ids." A letter has been received by this evening's mail from Pensacola, of the 10th inst., containing extracts of a letter from Vera Cruz of the 29th August. These only re•echo the statements which we published from official sourceson Monday evening, namely, that "the troops and the generals actually and absolutely refuse to march to invade Texas; that General Paredes has returned to Mexico, and others have followed suit. There is a report in town (Vera Cruz) from Mexico, that Paredes has pronounced (that is the way, you know they do business here) in favor of a regency, to be composed of three military men," &c. &c. These are, however, reports; and they want conformation. But the writer states that the "government is without money, and without power, and without energy, and, therefore, cannot stand." STEAMBOAT SUNK The Saint Louis Republican of the Iflth inn says: "The Die Vernon reports that the lowa No. 1, on her trip upto Galena, at Buller's Island. about filly miles above this city, ran upon a log, tearing off several of her timbers. She sunk in about six feet water, and from her apparent position it was feared she would break in two, as she is supposed to be resting upon a log. She had but little freight on board. licr engine and furniture will be saved." ECF The Washington (Pa.) Easminet, received loot night, contains a call for a meeting at the Court House in Washington, this evening, to appoint Delegates to the Gmensburgh Rail Road Convention. Good!
