Many of the "nostrums" of the present day are put out by persona who have no knowledge oft he scienee of medi• sine in theory or peactice, and in of to hide their ig norunce cry out loudly against. the "Ignorant l'retend ' el's," and bribe others to boost for them, which oft times has gulled the unsuspecting. and for want of proper knowledge of the diseases they pretend to core, no doubt think they cure when they do not, therefore they are to be pitied, but not hell so much as those who take their "miserable eumpoornds," but they hot only lose their money, but miss the advantage of that ne cessary advice which the real practical physician, is always able to give. We look to the tailor foran im provement in the mode ofdress; to the medical mon for an improvement in the science of medicine--end this accounts for the great superiority of Dt Seroyne's Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry over all other medicines ever offered to the public for the cure of all diseases of the Lungs and Breast, Coughs, Colds, Consumption, Asthma, Spitting Blood, Liver Corn• plaint. EXTENSION OF PITTSBURGH Rare Chance for good Investments I THE subscriber has laid out, and now cifers for sale at reasonable prices and on accommodating terms, One hundred and ten building Lots, on that handsome level ground between Braddock street and the Monongahela river. They are about one-third of a mile from the city line, and are situated in that part of the first city district which will probably soon be annexed to the city us the Seventh Ward. No pro prrty in the suburbs possesses superior advents ngrs, nor has any heretofore been laid out with so liberal an al lowance of wide streets; Braddock is from ono hun dred and twenty to about one hundred and ninety feet wide, and Beelen, Commerce, Brady, Columbus end Water streets all wide avenues. Most of the lots have two fronts, and as they are of various sires, end will be sold, one lot, with the privilege of four or five; early apnlicants can be accommodated to suit their own views of improvement. Persona who desire to build or to make secure investments in property that is sure to advance in value, and particularly those who intend to erect manufactories, would do well to view these Lots, and examine the theft, before purchasing else where. The survey for the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road nod the tail road survey by the State of Penn sylvania were both made alongside of this property, and it is generally considered that Braddock cleft, or the ground immediately alongside c.f it, affords the only eligible route for a Rail Road from Pittsburgh to the East. Coal can be delivered on thispropetty at a much less cost than on the Allegheny river, and there is always deep water at this part of the river. E. D. NUM — SINGLE cory,2s CENTS. Prospectus of the next (or 17th) Volume. THE PRICE of the DEMOCRATIC REVIEW has heretofore been too high—not for Its size, cost, and ammeter, but for the means of tens of thousands of readers who would be glad to receive it, andarnong whom Li is highly desirable that it should circulate. For the purpose, therefore, of largely widening the range of its usefulness, and of multiplying the num bers of those to whom it may heaccessible, it has been determined, simultaneously with the great reduction ill the expenses of the postage. to reduce its subscrip tiou price also, (torn Fire to only TAree dollars; and when several unite in subscription, tons low as $2 50, or even $2 30 per annum. This very large reduction in the receipts (accompa nied with but a comparatively small diminution of its expenses) involves, or course, sn entire sacrifice of profit upon it, unless compensated by a vast multipli cation of its subscribers. There will be a , the outset only a small reduction in its monber of pages; soon to be restored to its old number, without increase of price, when the anticipated success of the experiment shall jo.tify ir. The PORTRAITS n► DISTINGUISHED DEMOCRAT! will be continued—engraved in bettor and mote costly sidle than Let etufore.
