to make itself disbelieve and the people discredit

give up this attempt first as lest. It cannot hope to
improssioi opinions upon any considerable number of
the people; a vast majority of whom have no doubt
that Mr Clay is in favor of `and "glad to see" annex

ter, in which he uses tilt, expression "glad to see,"
&c. was abandonment of the ground he took in his
first letter. The democratic party so viewed it—the
Liberty party on viewed it, and they would no doubt
have been glad to find in Mr C. an honest opponent
of Texas—and the Texas whigs every where, who
constitute a majority of the party, so viewed it.--
