son. on the 15th, 16th, and 17th inst. The General's

Gen Armstrong is on his way to Liverpool. He is
emompartied by his son-in-law. Capt A Harris, for

Stockholders have thus a chance to save one-half of
the premium, and are besides entitled to a full share
of dividend. Charter 'perpetual
The mutual risk lessens in proportion to the amount
of insurances. If ten men insure any given sum, each
one incurs a risk of 10 per cent.; but 500 men would
only incur the risk of omfifth of one percent.
The Company has been in operation since 1840.
Capital anbscribed, $lOO,OOO, on which 20 per cent.
have been paid in. which amount, with about 20 per
cent. more, is safely invested in mortgages and other
securities.
There is a considerable amount of bonds us hands,
to be reanrieci to in case of losses, hefore any capital
subscribed can be used This is the 'cent security.
and this principle of mutual insurances has given :test
satisfaction.

It will appear manifest upon examination, that the
owners of the steamers. Michigan and Wisconsin. are
determined to drke from the trade the Steamboat Lake
Erie : their course has been and now continues in full
vigor to monopolize the whole buaines.; they were not
satisfied with having the lion's share of trade and
choice of hours in leaving Pittsburgh and Beaver, but
now publicly and plainly say they will drive the Lake
Erie from the river—a genernus public will decide.—
