Tax Car/rm.—The St Loui■ Republican, of Fri
day week, says, the wreck of the steamer Capitol has
been &stadia about two fathom water, three miles be
losfielitne she was burned. The diving bell was on
thespot, preparing to attempt the recovery of her ma
cbisory, etc. It will be recollected that a considem
ideates of money in gold was lost upon her, which
violably may be recovered.

Oil Cloth Lost.
IN the hurry of moving from some or the buildings
on 2d street, between Wood and Market, during
the lire, a piece of Oil Cloth was put upon the wrung
cart, and has not since been recovered by the rightful
turner. Any person returning it to this office will be

Tavern stand, in the borough of Lnwrencaville.
It is an old and popular stand, and the house is in

PROPOSA LS will be received by this Department
until the 10th day of May next, at 3 P. M., for
furnishing 15.000 balances for the various Post Offices
in the United States, constructed on a plan best caku
lated to ascertain the weight of letters, and other mail
able matter. under the Post Office law of 3d March,
1845. The prices at which they can be furnished to
accompany the proposition.
It will be perceived that it will be necessary that
the balance should indicate a half ounce, and any giv
en weight between a half ounce and eight ounces.
Propositions not to be considered unless accompanied
by samples.
It is desired by the department that the whole num
ber of balances indicated shall be furnished by the first
of Jul}; but the bidder will designate the time or
times at which be can furnish the same.

THEperson who v, as taking a load to Bell's tavern
in Liberty, will remember receiving a large
bandbox without 'a lid, containing clothing, a piece
of black Alpacca, for a dress; and other things; from
a lady in Smithfield, near Diamond alley, who ran after
him and stopped him, will please leave word at Mr.
Leonard's, Mrs. Von Bonhorst's old residence, where
it can be found, as Mr. Bell was moving, when she called
for it. He will confer a great obligation, for which
he will receive a reward.
Lost, a new hair trunk, of rather a light color, con
taining silks of different kinds—not certain if the
name of J. P. Stuart was on or not. Also. a trunk
covered with black leather, containing Irish linen,
wearing apparel, and other articles. The persons who
received these trunks from me, either at the door on
Wood street or at the doer ofJudge Wilkins' new house
in 41th, and were directed to leave them at the corner
of 5Th and Smithfield. will please state to the Mayor
where they left them, and they will be amply reward
ed. Persons who carried articles (too numerous to
mention), including some clothing, things unironed,
beds, silver spoons, marked 'S.' and 'J. A. S ', glass
candlesticks. pictures and other things, fine card ta
bles, sofa, will please remember where they took them
in the confusion. Also, a sideboard, which stood op
posite Mr. Lemmon's, on Fourth street. AlllO. a large
