Jarrsttsoa's BIRTH De T.—Thisanniversary, which
took place, on the 2d, was celebrated in N York,
by the Jefferson Association. They had an Address,
a Collation, and a Torch Light Procession.
APTCARANCES ARE DEC ICITFUL.—Some recent
philosopher, who has evidently made dietics the study
of his entire life, says the Pic., has finally come to the
conclusion that because a man eats bull-frogs it is no
sign he orm'jump a ten rail fence, neither does it fol
low as a matter of course that the individual who
occasionally dines on snails must necessarily be a slow
traveller! Mankind is growing wiser apace.
Ea" The odd fellows fix the date of their institution
in the 55th year of the Christian era.

The Ohio Bank Lew —The editor of the Belida
(Ohio) Venture acknowledges the receipt of a copy
of this law, in pamphlet, from some member of the
Legislature, on which was VI I itte ri the following poin
ted and pointing stanza:
"Within this awful volume lies
The heresy of heresies.
The deep damnation of the band
Which fastened it upon the land—
The mark of Crawls doomed to linger,
Untended by Time's defacing finger,
Upon the perined, cringing coons,

To Iron Pounders.
SEALED proposals will be received until the 9th
inst., at the Office of the Pittsburgh Gas Works,
for 2,200 feet of 3 inch pipe, 9 feet lung; and 400 feet
of 2 inch 6 feet long; the 3 inch to weigh not less than
144 lbs.; the 2 inch 58 lbs.. from Patterns provided
by the works, also. for such Branches and condensers
at may be required; the whole of said pipes and branch
es, &c. to be of strong soft Grey Iron, fit for drilling
and cutting, &c.; to be executed in a workmanlike
manner, free from overtaps and smooth on the inside,
to stand a test equal to 250 ft. bead of water; the said
pipes and branches, &c. to be proved at the expense
e of the contractors aid delivered at such times and
places as shall be designated by the Engineer, the
whole to be delivered by the first of June.
The proposals to stare the price per foot for pipes
and per pound for other castings.
Certificates of Gas stock, at par, to the amount of
the bid, to he received in payment by the contractor
for said pipes and castings.

Hugh Toner, F.sq., surviving Administrator of the es.
late of William Andersen, lake of the city of Pittsburgh,

Ccrurt House, in the City of Pittsburgh, on Monday,
the 28th day of April inst., •at the hoar of 10 o'c!ock,
