    "Hail to thee! blithe spirit!
Bird, thou pryer
leywert!"
Shel to a gkilark
Thou art a "bird"—a pretty bird, thou amiable hen.
Aod a "spirit," too, thou hoverest about the .baina of
men:
Ameek and quiet spirit, thou art rather seen thin
herald; •
And I love thee for thy gentleness, thou sweet do
mestic bird. -
•
A child of industry and peace, thou dust appear to be,
And scratching round the world for food, is world
enough for thee.
There's judgment iu thy counteuance—there's shrewd-
ness in th!ne air,
And the innocence of chickenhood is ever dwelling
there-
Thy voice is somewhat clamorous but, while most
other birds
ripe out their soft and love-like notes to sentimental
words,
Thy cackling note, statistical, in business style is
made,
To prisclamate to all around when thou an egg halt -
Lail.
T. grant ft lacks in sentiment, an possibly might seem
A little ostentatious too; hufin this age of steam.
When self-display is "all the go," and "statistics" are
"the rage,"
rt surely is in•keeping with "the spirit of the age!'
And the gentle voice too oft is heard, entreating from
thu mud,
For thy chickens some of them to come and light upon
a bug.
Awl at eve thy private "curfew bell"—thy clucking
tongue, is loosed,
To bid the chicks forsake the world, and came with
thee to roost.
Thus calmly dust thou pass thy days, thou amiable
r hen,
Renouncing woods and poetry, for the bustling haunts
of men:
The lark may sing, the eagle soar, the vulture joy in
strife,
'Bs "glory enough" for thee to be "domestic." in th
life.
And now, farewell ! be thou with joy and corn abund
ant blest,
And be thy last declining days, thy brightest and thy
best !
With this I cease, and my harp I bang, like Jews,
by Babel's streams,
No more thy praise to warble forth, bird of my sweet
. est dreatna.

of blood, and a severe pain in the
beast, loss of appetite, fever, &c. &c. which was
scarcely supportable. I had a family who were whol

then attended by several physicians, but still grew
worse, until my medical attendants gave me up as an
incurable. Subsequently, my wife observing, in one of

Medicated Vapor Bath.
Cory OF A LETTER. FROM Diu. LAWRENCE AND
H F. ?? RICICION
New Lebanon, State of New York.
WORTHY FRI EN IX—Having made a thorough trial
of the Medicated Vapor Bath for font months past, in
our societies in New Lebanon and Watervliet, we think
it but justice to state, that we consider it a valuabie
improvement in the healiti4 art. It:: power in reduc
ing both chronic and acute tnflamation, also in remov
ing spasms, is certainly very great. In cases of ob
structed perspiration, it is unquestionably the safest
and best remedy that we have ever seen. Several
persons in our society, who were scarcely free from a
catarrhal affection during most of the winter months
for several years past, have found permanent relief by
using the Bath a few times; and the predisposition to
take cold, as it is commonly termed, seems to be whol
ly removed. Obstructed perspiration, is certainly in
our changeable climate, one of the most fruitful sour
ces of disease, and any remedy that is capable of re
moving the predisposition to it, must he considered a
great blessing to mankind; and as such we do not hesi
tate to recommend the Medicated Vapor Bath.

The Teaberry tooth wash ;
And see if this tooth wash of Thorn's is not fine.
Having tried Dr."Tbot n y e Tea Berry Tooth Wash,"

extremely pleasant dentrifice, exercising a most salu

those indispensable members from premature decay,
preventing the accumulation of Tartar, and purifying
the Breath. Having thoroughly tested its virtues, we

HATHAWAY'S
ratant Hot Air Cooking Stoves.
THE subscriber having entered into the stove busi
'lesss in Pittsburgh, respectfully informs the pub
lic that he intends carrying it on in its various branches
at the warehouse of Messrs. Pennock & Mitchell. No.
160 Liberty street, where he will be prepared to simply
purchasers with any articles in his lino. In addition
to other Stoves which he will have on hand, he has
obtained the right to manufacture and sell Hathaway's
Patent Hot Air Cooking Stoves. This stove is pro
nounced superior to any other now in use in the United
States; it is more durable in its construction, and bet
ter adapted to the use of baking, roasting and cooking,
as it is heated very regularly by confining the air in
the stove; and it is a great saving of fuel, as well as
labor. I will keep on hand a sufficient number to sup
ply all demands if possible; I have five different sixes,
and will sell them on reasonable terms, according to
sizes. I have now in use upwards of fifty in and about
this city; all pat in use within six months. Being a
ware that the People of Western Pennsylvania have
been imposed upon by the introduction ofnew and high
ly recommended Stoves which were badly constructed,
and havirg soon failed and become useless. I will grant
to persona wishing to procure the Hot Air. Stove, the
privilege of using it a stifficientlength of time to prove
its superior quality before I ask them to purchase.
Persons notifying me from a distance by letter, can
have stoves put up at any time, as I have wagon to
carry them out; I therefore invite Farmers and all per
sons to come and judge for themsetveat also to try them
and prove that it is to your advantage to have one.
Allorders will be prousttly attended to by the subscri
ber. ROBERT DONAVAN.

Mr. R. Doissyset—Sir: I have in nse one of Math
awav's Hot Air Cooking Stoves, which -- I got from you
last Spring. It affords me much pleitsure to recom-
mend it for its excellence. So far as my knowledge
extends, I have no hesitation in saying it is the best
stove now in use. I need not particularise its merits,
but would advise all disposed to possess an article of
the kind, to adopt the beat method of satisfying them
selves, that is, to try it; and I doubt not they will be
'satisfied. D. R. MILLER.

Mr. R. DoaLvoN—Sir.—l have had in rise for flee
months, one of Hathaway's Hot Air Cooking Stoves,
and I have no hesitation in saying it is the best stove
now in use, The various kinds of cooking it is macu
lated to do at the same time, and the small quantity
of fuel tequired, makes it an object worthy the atten
tion of all who desire a good stove.
THOMAS VARNER.
r4 F. I embrace this opportnnily to recommend the
Hot Air Cooking Stoves; I have used the one YOU put
up fix ate constantly all summer, and I mast say it is
a grand article. I believe it is superior to any other
stove now in use in this city. The oven bakes well,
and is large enough to bake four large loaves of bread
at one time; it also cooks very speedily, and it requires
very little coal, Ithink them worthy the attention of all
who wish a good stove; to such I would say, try them
and previa what they are.
