Ate . weep and tremble at the doom,
The dreadful doom of death,
'Tie sad, amidst the fair earth's bloom,
To yield this Mortal breath.
The brave may sternly beer the pain,
That soon must pass away;
Tut. io think that ne'er again
"beer friends with eager hands, shall greet,
'•Or fond hearts share love's converse sweet,
Werwhohns us with dismay.,
'll3-treo that trusting faith is cola
Of worlds beyond the sky,
And few there are so blind or bold
As dare such creed deny.
It is not that an after state
.-Or dark or doubtful seems;
Alas! we shrink from future fate,
'Because we may not brook the thought
That bouts, with life's enchantments fraught,
Arirunreturning dreams. ,
Iwo fims each mortal bliss alloyed,
Each smile foretells a tear,
Bat still, the breast would-soon be cloyed
That never felt a fear,
The beauty of the brighest beam
-
Is deepened by the shade;
Fairest the stars in darkness gleam
-The Mead, red sun at eventide, .
Assumes a most imposing pride
in floating clouds arrayed.
Perfection bath not reigned on earth,
Nor ruled the human mind;
We pant not for diviner worth,
Nor raptures more refined,
A moral weakness makes us cling
To Mural forms along
We - feel we cannot coldly fling
•On Lethe's dark insatiate stream
.The charms of life's familiar dream.
And turn to scenes unknown.
'Tie this that fills the final hour
With mournfulness and drench
•
Love's tender ties and friendship's power
Avail not with the dead.
Bat, though we meet to part no more,
• We may not meet the same;
"The things that linked our hearts of yore
Are chains that death's cold hand divides,
!For naught in holier reels abides
Of this terestrial frame.
VI.
Thy radient fields, Eternity!
The dreamer's breast alarm,
They echo not a human sigh,
- Nor own a human charm.
Thy skies the dazzled soul appal
And too severely glow;
Their hues no mortal days recall;
Ana in•tby bright and boundless space,
•Where only spirits dwell, we trace
No features loved below.
'We shudder, on the mystiebrink
Of earth and dread the change,
The best, the bravest bosoms shrink
From all mutations strange
-As. instinct often weak and blind
As en infant's face;
For, surely, saints in heaven will find
They sigh no more for earthly powers
"With-feelings, faculties, anci.powers
That suit a holier sphere.

FOR CONSUMPTION.
COLDS, Coughs, Bronchitis, Asthma; Spitting of
Blood, Difficalty of Breathing, Pain in the Side.
Breast and Chest, Influenza, Whooping Cough, Croup
and all diseases of tha Liver and
LUNGS.
Has now been before the puplic for several years
During which time its value has been tested by thou
sands who were laboring under the numerous diseases
which have their origin in a common Catarrh or Cold,
and which this medicine is designed ty cure. The
result of this trial has been to place "Duncan's Reme
dy" at the head of the patent medicines of the day.
BY ITS OWN MERITS •ND EXCLLLINCII,
it has attained a popularity excelling that of any other
preparation, now offered to the public for the preven
tion and cure of that large and frightful class of disear.
es which so frequently lead to. and terminate in
CONSUMPTION,
It is now offered to the afflicted with confidence as
the am preparation fur Coughs, Colds, &c. extant.
We are warranted in assuming fur it this high charac
ter, by the proofs, which we are constantly receiving,
of the invaluable benefits derived from its use. Tea.
timonials and recommendations of the strongest kind
are constantly being received from all quarter, by 'the
Proprietor and Agents.
In relieving eases of Asthma, Difficulty in Breathing,
Pain in the Side and Breast, it is unequalled; in cur
ing Bronchitis, Coughs and Colds, and in short remov
ing all the symptoms of approaching Pulmonary Con
sumption,
11l SUCCESS HAS BEEN 11NPARALELLED
No other medicine has proved itself so really inval-
uable. Thousands in Pittsburgh and the vicinity, are.
as fat us human agency is concerned, indebted to Dr.
Duncan's Expectorant Remedy for prolonging life and
health. Many persons alter using the other cough
medicines of the day without effect, have been com
pletely restored by this truly
GREAT DISCOVERY in the HEALING ART
A strong and undoubted evidence of i•s worth, is to
be found ;n the high degree of popular favor which it
has received since its introduction into the West.—
Whetever an agency has been opened for its sale, and
wherever it has received a fair and honest trial, it has
become firmly established as a
STANDARD FAMILY MEDICINE.
It is rapidly superseding the use of the many nos
trums, which have so long imposed upon the communi
ty, which have obtained their name only by puffing
and braggadocio, and which are now destined to be
thrown aside to make way for the best cough medicine
of the present age. It is not pretended that it will
positively cure every case of the disease, for which it
is designed, but it is honestly believed that in every
case where it gets a fair chance it will effect a cure.
Coming, then; before the people with. the highest
recommendations, it is at least, worthy of a trial by all
who are afflicted with any of that large and dangerous
class of diseases.
The following is a specimen of the numerous testi
monials which we have received. It is from a PHY
SICIAN of high standing in Ohio.
Dear Sir—Having bad occasion to witness the ef
fect of Dr. Duncan's Expectorant Remedy . on Mr Eli
Young in a case of Pulmonary Consumption, 1 felt it
My duty to make a brief statement in order that others
that are or may be afflicted with the same complaint
maybe benefitted by the same remedy.
He was attacked with inflammation in the left lobe
of the lungs in March 1843, attended with acute pain,
groat difficulty of breathing, and a severe cough, which
proceded rapidly to vuppuration: and not withstanding
the use and application of the best remedies prescribed
by our authors, the complaint in a few days began to
exhibit evident symptoms of ulceration.
In this distressing stnge of the complaint, I bra d re
coulee to Dr Dancan's Expectorant Remedy fo oon
snmption, which had the effect of checking the disease
immediately, and in a few days the pain ceased, the
breathing became free and easy, the cough left him,
and the expectoration subsided, the consequences of
which was that in using six bottles he has recovered
his health, and is restored to his family.
1 do hereby certify the above to be true statement of
my case as far as comes within my knowledge.
ELI YOUNG.

WORTHY FRlEND:—Having made a thorough trial
of the Medicated Vavor Bath for four months past, in
our societies in New Lebanon and Watervliet, we think
it but justice to state, that we consider it a valeabie
improvement in the healing art. Its power in reduc
ing both chronic and acute inflamation, also in remov
ing spasms, is certainly very great. In cases-of ob
structed perspiration, it is unquestionably the safest
and best remedy that we have ever seen. Several
persons in our society, who were scarcely free from a
catarrhal affection during most of the winter months
for several years past, have found permanent relief by
using the Bath a few times; and the predisposition to
take cold, as it is commonly termed, seems to be wbol
ly removed. Obstructed perspiration, is certainly in
eur changeable climate, one of the most fruitful sour
ces of disease, and any remedy that is capable of re
moving the predisposition to it, must be considered a
great blessing to mankind; and as such we do not hesi
tate to recommend the Medicated Vapor Bath.

DAVID HUNT, Dentist.
Pittsburgh, Sept. 15, 1842
I take pleasure in stating, having made use of
"Thorn's Tea Berry Tooth Wash," that it is one of the
best clentrifices in use. Being in aliquidform. it com
bines neatness with convenience. While it cleanses
the enamel and removes the tartar from the teeth, its
perfume yields a fragrance peculiarly desirable.
J. P. TIBBETTS, IVA. D.
The undersigned have used "Thorn's Compound
Tea Berry Tooth Wash," and have found it to be an
extremely pleasant dentrifice, exercising a most salu
tary influence over the Teeth and Gums; preserving
those indispensable members from premature decay,
preventing the accumulation of Tartar, and purifying
the Breath. Havingtboroughly tested its virtues, we
take pleasurein recommending it to the public, believ
ing it to be the best article of thekind now in use.

Et is not generally known, but nevertheless true, that
Drugs and spices sold in the East, are lower in price

must be made up by adulteration; dye woods have at

water added to them. Now water, dust, cornmeal
