American Rail Road Iron.—A bar of rail road
iron, manufactured at the Mount Savage iron works
in Allegheny county, in this state bas been deposited
in the Rotunda of the Exchange for the inspection of
the public. Similar specimens, we learn from the
Ameictin,have been sent to Philadelphia, New York
and Rattan. Tiro above mentioned rail is very sim
ilar in form to that last imported from Europe by the
/Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. called the U rail, only
'the iron is thicker, and the hollow part not so high,
'but much stronger. The rail road leading from the
Mount Savage Works to Cumberland, which, it is
expected, will be completed by the fifteenth of next
month, strip bolsi.' with rails of this description i made
Ai the Works, and we also learn tint the company
- have concluded to contract with the Fill River Rail
Road in Massachusetts for furnishing one thousand
town. The pricer we learn, is about fifty-nine dollars

It is not generally known, but nevertheless true, that
Drugs and spices sold in the East, are luwer in price
than whole, of course the profit and cost of grinding
must be made up by adulteration; dye woods have at
least 15 per cent, and in some eases 25 per cent. of
water added to them, Now water, dust, cornmeal
and flaxseed meal are plenty here, and we can eat
them iu their purity, if so it pleases us, without pay
ing a pepper price with freight and premium added.
