A 1110 Ta XX Srtaatxo Case.—Yesterday afternoon,
a man named SA YU IL DODDS was stabbed in the
Fifth Ward, by a person named WILLIAM REDDISO
They quarrelled about a woman, and Dodds appear
ing to be the accepted one, Redding entered the house
where he and his lady love were, and drawing a dirk
knife, stabbed Dodds iu the shoulder, the wound ex
tending under the arm, severing the blood vessels of
the arm pit and reaching to the breast. He bled pro
fusedy, but Dr HASLET dressed his Wound, and, al
though hn is in a critical state, hopes are entertained
that he will recover. Redding was arrested.
Lemoyne, the Liberty Candidate for
Governor, will address the citizens of Pittsburgh and
Allegheny, this evening' 28th inst., at 7 o'clock, in the
old Court House. (Scpt. 28 1844.

lINSTITUTIONS for the cure of the above diseases
have been in operation for the last twenty years in
the principal cities of Europe, also in New York and
Charlestn, South Carolina; reports of committees
composed of the most respectable citizens in the differ
ent places where the Baths are established can be
seen at our offfce, that will show that these diseases
which have heremfore been considered incurable have
almost invariably yielded under the peculiar treatment
of Dr Whitlow. The results which have been produced
Blaring the short time the Baths have been in operation
in this city, we believe, renders it our duty to inform
those who are so unfortunate as to be afflizted with
any of the above diseases, that if they apply to us in
time, they can generally expect a cure.
The following is an extract from a report published
by the institution at. New York, showing the efficacy of
the Bath when all other remedies had failed:
"Rheumatic, syphilitic and gouty affections, attend
ed with ulcers, blotches and eruptions of the skin, par
ticularly when originating from the improper use or
abuse of Mercury, scald-head, salt-rheum, erysiplas,
Pimpled face, dry scurvy, leprosy, ring-worm, totters
and all other hitherto unmanageable diseases of the
skin, scrofulous diseases are relieved and cured in a
much shorter period and with more certainty than any
other mode of treatment ever employed."

Pittsburg, Pa., which can be examined by any person
disposed to make proposals. The saddle trees must
be made of the best sound and seasoned ash timber,
and of the exact model and dimensions of the patterns
referred to, and will be subject to a strict inspection
by such person or persons as the undersigned may, on
the part of the United States, appoint for that duty:—
First, after the completion of the wood work and be
ironed, and again after ironing id before being cover
ed, and finally. the whole wasWevill be inspected when
offered for delivery to the 'Drifted States. And with
the view of guarding still further the interest and
rights of the Government against inferior materiels and
workmanship. the undersigned reserves to the Govern
ment the privilege, through the Inspectors who maybe
appointed to inspect the articles comracted for, of dis
secting saddle or saddles as may be designated, for
the purpose of determinating more satisfactorily
the quality of the covered materiels and work;
which dissected saddle or saddles, if found equal in all
respect. to the pattern, will be received; but if other
wise will be turned upon the bands uf the contractor as
rejected; and the in/deli:tin e d reserves to himself, as
the agent of the Government, the further right or p:iv
ilege of regarding any defect in model, materials or
workmanship, discovered by dissection,as common to
all the other saddles offered for inspection, as vearrate
Ling the rejection of all.
A contract in triplicate, based upon lex-epted bids or
proposals, will be executed by the parti;.for the faith
ful performance of which the usual bands with two or
min— good securities, will be reqeircd. 'The Evil -
meats in question may be delivered at either the Clo
thing and Equipage Depot at Phildelphia, Ur to the t If.
firers or Agents of the Government at St.
Newport, Ky., or Pittsburgh, Pa., with whom the mod
els or patterns above mentioned may be &posited, as
the contractor may find it most convenient.

SEALED PROPOSALS, endorsed " Proposals for
Fuel for Steam Vessels," will be received at this
Bureau, until 3 o'clock, P. M., of the first of October
next, for furnishing and delivering for the use of the
Navy, the following quantities and descriptions of Coal
at the Navy Yard specified, viz :
Al Ike Navy Yard, Charlestown, Massachusetts.
Six hundred tons of bituminous coal.
Al the Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York.
One thousand tons of bituminous coal, and three
hundred tons of anthracite coal.
Al Ike Navy Yard, Gosport, Virginia.
One thousand tons of bituminous coal, and three
hundred tons of anthracite coal,
At the Navy Yard, near Pensacola, Florida.
Ore thousand tons of bituminous coal.
And at Erie, Pennsylvania.
Four hundred tons of bituminous coal.
The whole quantity may be delivered as early as
suits the convenience of the persons with whom con
tracts shall be made, but at least one half must be de
livered before the 31st of December next, and the whole
of it before the Ist of April, 1895.
All the coals are to be of the best quality; and as free
as possible from other substances, and particularly from
sulphur. The bituminous coal must be dr y, clean,
lump coal; and, if required, must be separad after its
delivery at the respective points, so that it shall be
satisfactory to the Commandant of the Yard, or to the
persons appointed by him to inspect the same, in this
particular, as well as in all others, before it can be re
reived by the United States. Preference will be given
to coal taken from mines or pits in the United States,
when of equal quality and sample.
The anthracite coal must be broken to the size that
may be previously directed by the Commandants of
the Yards whenitit is to be delivered—must be tho
roughly screened and in all respects satisfactory to him
or to the inspecting officers to be appointed by him.
Persons offering will be particular to make their of
fers in separateletters for the deavery of such kind of
coal at cash of the yardi specified: and With separate
prices for the bituminous and for the anthracitte coal,
that separate contracts may be made for each Navy
'l Y ard, and for each kind of coal. if desired by the De
partment. The price asked for etch kind of coal must
be for the ton of 2,240 pounds, as weighed in the
Navy Yard where delivered. The offers must state
the mines or pits, and their situation, from which the
coals are to be taken; and, when delivered, satisfacto
ry evidence must be furnished with the coals. that they
were taken from the mines or pits specified in the
contracts.
Satisfactory bonds in half the amount of the con
tracts will be required for their faithful performance, in
addition to a reservation of ten per centum upon all
bids which may be approved, which reserved ten per
centum will not be paid until the completion of the
contract according to its terms. In cast of failure on
the part of contractors to deliver the coals within the
time specified, the commandants or agents at the re
speedy' places of delivery arts to be authorized to sup.
ply any deficiencies by purchase, and the contractors
and their sureties are to be liable for any excess of cost
over the contract price, and the ten percent. reserved to
be forfeited for the use of the United States.

T HE success this line has met with, since ltival
first established on the "Individual Enterpri se"
system, has induced the proprietors to increase the
number of Boats during the winter to twenty-five, one
of which will leave Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Bal
timore every day (except Sundays) during the season,
and make the trip through in six days.
The superiority and advantages of the Portable Boat
System over every other mode of transportation (when
canals intersect with rail roads) are too well known
to shippers by this route generally to require any corn
ment.
