Tbecoorts are ever urging the claims of Hen
ry May , in choice poetry. An extensive collet-60110F
balladahas been published by the "Clay Club of Boa
ton,,'! which is must extravagantly lauded by all the
faithful of the party. here is a verse of great beau
ty and force:
"Who rode on Dobbin, old and kind,
fdillward his father's corn to grind, 1
With shirt-tail fluttering behhal
My Harry."
The Boston Post paraphrases the slam as follows,
which is nearly as good:
"Who wants to reach the Union's summit,
- But still as far as ever from it—
' Who tried three times and couldn't come it?
Jly .11.nrry."
A Duel.—A duel was fought yesterday afternoon
near the MAtairie race course. The peties ate resi
dents of the city—the cause was an alleged or assumed
ihmult to a lady—the weapons were double-barelled
shot-guns—the distance was ffirty paces. At the first
fire, the bell of the party challenged passed through
the fleshy part of the arm of his adversary and in an
angular direction through his side. The wound is not
considered dangerous. [Picayune.
