MR. CLAY AND THE HARRISON MEN.
"A Close of Tarne—For three yours past, our
opportsbout lien charged those whet/toted for, Harri4on
in 1840 wiry having been"bribed,""bseng,ht,," and led

beastly drunk with land cider. S Gazette.
In 1841, Mr Citsyiri a letter retuning to the Hai n:

since then, it is due to those whose stipp..trt he asks that
he should retract the charge. The following are ex
tracts from the letter:
My name never again, with my consent, shoo lte
brought before acn vention I have been most shame
' fatly treated by men in whose reiterm&l promisee of
support I placed every confidence. When I ascertain

MR CLAY'S PROSPECTS IN NEW YORK-MR
WEBSTER'S OPINION EXPRESSED IN
••1842.
"The Whig strength of New York lies in the West,
beyond Cayuga and in that whole region, with
the exception or n few personal IS fends, Mr Clay nev
er had any strength at all, aid never ran have, for rea
sons neither rernmeable tow convertible. I t cannot
be proved mathematically, I:ut it can he shown to the
satisfaction of any reasonable man. and, indeed, it is
apparent enough to persons acquainted with the sub
ject, without any showing at all, that if Mr. Clay had
been the candidate (in 1840) New York would most
assuntelly have given her vote for Mr. Van Buren. A.
similar result will happen hereafter, should there be
folly enough, as thew is not likely to be, to try the
experiment."
Now. that-the above was the opinion of Mr. Web
ster in 1842. and so expressed, we hippen to know,
and so assure our readers. Mr Webster will not de
ny it now. Some friend of his may elev. it r iatat that
will not affect the truth of our assertion. What we
ussert we wept-glared ten prove.—Madisonian.

LETTER OF THE BEV. S. B. WYLIE, D. 1), OR THE
EFFICACY OF THE MEDICATED VAPOR BATH.
Messrs. Fleming 4. Black:
GENT L EN:—I have made tt ial of your Vapor
Bath. The benefit thereof has much exceeded
my expectatin P. I had not anticipated the degree of
pleasure produced by the medicated vapor during
the whole process of its operation. I could scarcely
have spent fifteen minutes more pleasantly; while
my lungs were inhaling an odoriferous perfumed at
mosphere, and every pore of my system was exuding,
in copious perspiration; noxious humors, injurious to
the he th y state. I left the Bath, greativ refreshed,
and even exhilemted. I had been troubleri much with
rhetriisatic pains, and worn down with fatigue cf busi
ness; the pains were completely removed, and I re
ceived fresh animation. It cannot, it is true, cure
broken bones, or !educe Imtations of joints; to such
things it makes no pretensions. But it can and does,
expel from the body, such peccant matter as may, by
its presence, be incompatible with a perfectly healthy
condition of the human frame. Without hesitation, I
can recommvnd the Vapor Bath to all afflicted by
languor of constitution, nr laboring under such diseas
es as it.proftesses to alleviate or cure.
SAMUEL It. WYLIF:,
Pittsburgh, Aug. 17, 1844.- Philanelphia.
Persons afflicted with Rheumatic pains will see by
the übove letter that they can rely on being cured, as
in no instance where the Bath and medicines were
usedhk)re they failed to produce a similar resnit.
