"Drowned! drowned! '--Haxt.itT.
• One more Unfortunate,
Weary of breath,
Ready importunate,
Gam to her death!
Tslie her iP tenderly,
Lift her with care - .
Fai eo slenderly,
Young and so hurl
Look at her garments
Clinging like cormnent s;
Whilst the wave constantly
Drips from her clothing;
Take her up instantly,
Lovingnot loathing."
Touch het nut scornfully;
Think of her mournfully,
Gently and humanly;
Not of the stains of her,
AU that remains of her
Now is pure womanly.
Make nothsep scrutiny
Into her mutiny
Rash and undutiful;
Past all dishonor,
Death has left on her
Only the beautiful.
Still, for 41 slips of tors, •
One of Eve's family—
Wipe those poor lips of hen
Ouiing.so
Loop up her tresses
Escaped from her comb,
Her fair auburn tresses;
Whast wonderment guesses
Where was ber home?
Who was her father
Who was her mother
Had she a sister ?'
Had she a brother?
Or was there a dearer one
Still, and a nearer one
Yet, than all other ?
Alas! for the tarity
Of Christian charity
'ender the son!
Oh! it was pitiful!
Near a whole city full
HOMO she had none.
Sisterty,brotherty,
Fatherly, motherly, •
Feeling had deluged :
Love by harsh evidence,
Thrown from hi eminence,
Even God's providence
Seeming estranged.
Where the lamps quiver
So far in the river,
With many a light
From window and easement,
From garret to basement,
She stood with amazement,
c Rouseleas by night.
The bleak wind of !llama
Made her tremble and shiver,
But the dark arch,
Or the black Sowing river;
Mad from life's history,
Glad to death's mystery
Swift to be but
Any where, any where
Out of the world!
In she plunked boldly,
No matterhow coldly
The 'rough river ran—
Over the brink of it,
Picture it—think of it,
Dittolobe Man !
Lave in it, drink of it
Then, if you can I
Take bei , up tenderly.
Lift her with care•
Fashioned so slenderly,
Young, and so fair
Ere Ler limbs frigidly
Stiffen too rigidly,
Decently—kindly—
Smooth and compose them;
And her eyes, close them,
Staring so blindly!
Drethiftdly staring
Through muddy impurity,
As when with the daring
Last look of despairing
Fixed on futurity.
Perishing gloomily,
Spurred by contumely,
Vrigd inhumanity
Into her rest—
Cross her hands humbly,
As if praying dumbly,
Over her breast !
Owning her weakness,
Her evil behaviour,
And leaving, with meekness,
Her sins to her Saviour!

La! what makes your teeth so unusually whithl
Quoth Josh's dulcinia tohim t'other night,
To make yourn look so, with a grin, replied Josh,
I've bought you a bottle of Thorn's Tooth Wash,
'Tis the best now in use, so the gentlefolks say,
And since they have tried this, cast all Ethers away
But to prove it the best to make the teeth shine,
Look again, my dear Sal, at the lustre of mine.
Then try this great tooth wash,
The Teaberry tooth wash.
And see if this tooth wash of Thorn's is not fine
Having tried Dr. •'Thor n's Tea ferry Tooth Wash,"
and become acquaintedwith the ingredients of its com
position, (cheerfully say, 1 consider it one of the safest,
as it is one of the most plearant tooth washes now in
use. DAVID HUNT, Dentist.
Pittsburgh, Sapt. 15, 1842.
I take pleasure in stating, having made use of
"Thorn's Tea Berry Tooth Wa.sh," that it is ono of the
best dentrifices innse. Being in a liquid form. it com
bines neatness with convenience. While it cleanses
the enamel and removes the tartar from the teeth, its
perfume yields -a fragrance peculiarly desirable.
J. I'. TIBICETTS, 14 , .. D
The undersigned have used "Thorn's Compound
Tea Berry Tooth Wash," and have found it to be an
extremely pleasant dentrifice, exercising a most salu
tary influence over the Teeth and Gums; preserving
those indispensable members from premature decay,
preventing-the accumulation of Tartar, and purifying
the Breath. Having thoroughly tested its virtues, we
