PITTSBURGH, PA.
FRIDAY MORNING, AUGUST 23, 1844
lilarA Letter from Mr. INCRICY, in reply to the
ietra of our correspondent, T. H., will appear to•
lIIIXTOW
,On our outside will be found an interesting letter
flan our correspondent in Blairsville; —A Damper.—
with several other articles of interest.
FOUL Rmslito.—The Democrats of the East Ward,
it will be seen, by a notice in this paper intend to raise
*Hickory Pole, at the corner of Seventh and Fountain
sts. Seven! speeches are expected.
Gs [MAN Mtn - Inch—The German democratshad a
wiry spirited meetincat Polk Hall on Wednesday eve
ning.. It was addressed in German by Mr E HIK
Reno, a gentleman of fine talent, and well acquainted
with the political questions of the day. In the course
of his speech he exposed the many falsehoods that the
Clay men are attempting to impose upon the Germans,
a d exhibited the per secuting spirit that the w hig party
hashlvrays evinced towards adopted citizens.
H. S. Maoris', Esq., being present. was loudly
-called for, and. in a short speech, he completely strip.
pad from the vrhigs the Tariff mantle, under which they
are trying to hide the corrupt designs of their party.— : -
The facts he stated were sourcing and conclusive that
they Must have convinced every honest man that the
wept are in favor of protecting capital alone—pro.
txting the losg purses of the rich man, while honest
label is left to struggl t. as it best may.
The meeting altogether was one of the best we have
had.this campaign. and indicated that our German fel
lowrithrens are working earnestly end effectively for
the success of correct principles, by the election of
Polk, belles and Shenk.
[l7" We ham been informed by theft who have the
best opportunity of knowing, that the statement made
by aWI iter on Wednesday, that the "Bankrupt Court"
was granting certitcates of naturalization, has no
foundation in truth. But five certificates have been
issued by any person connected with that Court, for
the last year, and they were all granted in the regular
form by the District Court. We may further state, to
show she absurdity of the whole charge, that strictly
there is no such - Court, as the Bankrupt Court, the
District,Court is empowered to transact the Bankrupt
cy basilicas, and it is by the officers of that Court, that
all the Certificates have been issued.
