SONG FOR THE PEOPLE
' sr "PER SK" or tin OUtO STATESMLN
OVA CANDIDATES.
At ft " Yankee Doodle."
Our candidates are in the field,
And the Democratic party
-Will bring them in through thick and thin,
With a right good will and hearty.
Then beaks to Polk and Dallas, buys!
A dose of mortal piseis
For.the ring-tailed coons, with Ogle's spoons.
And Clay and Frelinghuyeen.
Yankee doodle, keep it up,
13ec.auie it comes so handy.
To feed the coons, with Ogh.'i
Vanheti doodle datidy.
The thrice-defeated candidate,
The chief of the dacha,
As the people's great chief magistrate,
Is scarce the proper fellow.
Then here's for Polk and Dallas, boys,
We find their stock is rising,
While that of Clay falls every day,
In spite of Frelinghuysen.
Yankee doodle, keep it up, &c.
A Democrat can black his boots.
While Clay his slave is switchen'.
A Democratic wife can help,
11. r dwellers in the kitchen.
But Clay, my lads, if he can't have
Black slaves, he must have white ones,
And with the coons and Ogle's spoons,
We think he's gut the right ones.
Yankee doodle, keep it up, &c.
We want nu Bnuk to break us down,
We want no second Biddle,
To regulate the affairs of State,
By playing second fiddle.
We want a simple Government,
All tricks and schemes despising.
Such as the Bank and Bankrupt Law
Of Clay and Frelinghuysen.
latikee doodle, keep it up, &c
liurra fur Polk and Dallas, boys,
The bleach is growing wider.
Between the cabins and the C0U133,
The gourd shells and hard cider.
The way we'll skin them in the fall,
Will be to all suaprisin,'
For a dose of Poitx will prove no joke
To Clay and Frelinghuysen!

NICHOLAS OF RUSSIA.
According to all accounts, this monarch is a very fine
looking man. - At least, we have beard some ladies ex
press this opinion, after reading the various descrip
tions. We must remember, however, that tourists and
writers on the other side of the water, are very apt to
flatter, especially when sketching princes, queens and
kings. An English work entitled "Letters from the
. - , - „Baltic." contains this picture from the Czar:
"-A towering plume moved, the crowd tell back, and
enframed in a vacant space stood a figure to which
there is no second in Russia, if in the world itself—a
figure of the grandest beauty, expression, dimension
and cumin tre, uniting all the majesties and graces of
all the he athengods—the little god of lose alone per
haps excepted—on its ample and symetrical pro
. *portions. Had this nobility of person belonged to a
common Mougik instead of to the Autocrat of all the
Russias, the admiration could nut have been less, nor
'scarcely the feelings of moral awe It was not the
monarch who was ao magnificent a man, but the man
who was truly imperial. The person of the Emperor
is that of a colossal roan, in the full prime of life and
health, 42 years of age, and 6 feet inches high, and
well filled out without arty approach to corpulency—
*.',:the head ma g nificently carried, a splendid breadth of
shuulder and chest, great lengt h and sfmmetry of limb,
with finely formed hands and feet. His face is strictly
Grecian-- - -forehead and nose in one grand line; the
yes finelylined, large . open, and blue, with a calmness,
a coldnesa, a freezing diinity, which can equally (pie
an insurrection, daunt an assassin, or paralyze a pet
tioner; the mouth regular, teeth fine, chin prominent,
with auk moustaches and small whiskers; bat n o t a
sympathy on his face! His mouth sometimes laughed.

La! what makes ;out teeth so unusually whith?
Quoth Josh's dulcinia tohim t'uther night,
To make yourn look so, with a grin, replied Josh,
ie [taught you a bottle of Thorn's Tooth Wash,
'Tis the beet now in use, so the gentlefolks say,
And since they have tried this, cast all others away.
But to prove it the best to make the teeth shine,
Look again, my deer Sal, nt tke lustre of mine.
Then try this great tooth wash,
The Teaberry tooth wash.
And see if this tooth wash of Thorn's is not fine.
Having tried Dr. "Thorn's Tea Berry Tooth Wash,"
and become acquaintetiwith the ingredients of its com
position, I cheerfully say, I consider it one of the safest,
as it is one of the most pleasant tooth washes now in
use. DAVID HUNT, Dentist.
Pittsburgh, Sept. 15, 1842.
I take pleasure in stating, having made use of
"Thorn's Tea Berry Tooth Wash," that it is one of the
best dentrifices in Ilse. Being in a liquid form it com
bines neatness with convenience. While it cleanses
the enamel and removes the tartar from the teeth, its
perfume yields a fragrance peculiarly desirable.
J. P. TIBBETTS, Al. D.
The undersigned have used "Thorn's Cemponnfl
Tea Berry Tooth Wash," and have found it to be on
extremely pleasant dentrifice, exercising a most salu-
tory influence over the Teeth and Gums; preserving
those indispensable members from premature decay,
preventing the aecumulation of Tartar, and purifying '
the Breath. Having thoroughly tested its virtues, we ,
take pleasure in recommending it to the public, believ
ing it .0 be the best article of the kind now in use. /
