MILDICATED VAPOR BATHS —WO would call pub•
lie attention to the advertisement of Mews. BLACK
& FLRIMIO'S Medicated Vapor Bade, published in
our paper thls morning. They have been in operation
in this city for but a few weeks, and • already the pro
prietors exhibit certificates of cures effected in eases
where every other course of treatment failed to give
any relief. On inquiry, we were referred to two
cases, one of the dropsy, the other a very aggravated
cutaneous disease, in which the patients were restored
to a healthy condition a few' days after they took the
Baths. They have been in use in Europe and por
tions of the United States for many years passed, and
' in almost every form of disease with which mankind
is afflicted, they have effected cures.
GWYNN:II'S STLE CANDLES.—Having made trial
and comparison of these Candles, with the best of
Sperm, we ant free to recommend them, as giving as
much light as Spsras Candles; and one of them will
bumlonger than a spermaceui candle of the same size.
When, in addition to these facts, the manufacturer or.
fens to sell them one-third cheaper than the foreign ar
ticle, we think the friends of home industry and true
economy will not neglect to call on Mr Gwyn= for
"more light" when they require it.
A Neste Act.--Yesterday in the afternoon, :tree
boys went out into the Allegheny River, in a skiff, to
bathe. When some distance from the shore, one of
them stripped and jumped in, but did not rise to the
surface again. His companions became alarmed, but
it was some moments before theircriea attracted atten
tion. At ength , however, several persons collected
oaths shore, but march looked ou without appearing
to be able to du any thing to save the boy. While they
thus stood in doubt and apathy, a man came running
down, learnt what was the matter, and with admirable
presence of mind, jumped into a skiff, and rowed out
to where the boat from which the boy had leaped from
was fastened. The two lads that were in it, pointed
out as near as they could the place their companion
had sunk, and then without waiting to take off his
hat, the noble-hearted fellow plunged into the river, and
after remaining ander water until fear were entertain
ed for his safety, he came to the surface bringing
the rescued boy with him. The boy was under water
about 15 minutes, but was soon restored by the proper
appliances. „, The name of theman who did this noble
act deserves to be written in letters of gold; it is
James CILDWSLL, Nailer of Allegheny city. His
courage, promptness, and presence of mind, are worthy
of all emulation.
