Judge of their surprise, however, when it was disclosed to them, that the rejected resolution had been copied, verbatim, word for word, comma for comma, from Jkfr. Clay's letter to Mr. Merry treater of Georgia, written io October last, as his sentiments ou the Tariff question ! Thus we see a Clay witig legislature utterly Ignorant of the sentiments -of its prototype upon a queettonmhich, in Pennsylva via at least, is their sole ground of reliance. They profess his creed, but are ignorant of his principles. And yet, had they known the origin of the resolution, "bey would have pronounced it the very quintessence of whiggery, and favoring the strongest kind of a pro lective Tariff. Thursday-During yesterday and to-day ten French ••_`punters have been arrested, who have been known , to ns as good and honest men, fathers of families, and old mai :mann in the colony. We ale assured that this was oNiidig to the simple denunciations of some rniserablemegroes; this is the grand news of the day, and exclusively engages our attention Saturday, 24th.—To-day we have seen Mr. May readier, one of our best friends, accompanied by some horse soldiers. His arrestation has given the greatest offence - to us, as well as to all the French and Spanish proprietors, who know him to be a respectable and honorable man. When will these proceedings stop? The Hudson Fsre.—ln addition to what we gave on Saturday, we find the following in the Albany Evening Journal. Forty buildings, it is said, are consumed, being the largely, fue that has ever visited that city. The de struction of property is immense. Every building each side of Still street is swept by the board. A large quantity of oil was consumed, one account esti abating the value at $60,000, another at $BO,OOO. At least 20,000 worth of wood was consumed, and all the lumber in the two extensive lumber yards on the dock. The total loss by this fire could not be ascer tained. It will probably exceed $150,000; about one halfof which is covered by insurance. FRESH SPRING GOODS. CHEAP PLACE FOR CASH. SIGN OF THE GILT COMB.
