Tke anti-pipe. laying bill.—Every friend to the
micerruptecl exercise of the right to vote, must regret
that the whigs of the Senate have seen fit to defeat
.the bill, which recently passed the House of Repre
sentatives, providing for simultuneous election through
out the Veited States. One of the great objects of
the bill was to prevent the frauds which are known to
have occut red at former elections, through the twee
/ice that some men adopted and others encouraged, of
eeting in sevsral States during the same canvass The
Infamous schemes of the pipe layers which were car
ried out to such an alarming extent between Pennsyl
vania end this State, a few years since, have been a
seaming to the democracy. and the plan of one-day
elections was devised to put a stop to some extent to
the iniquity. There aro many sagacious politicians
who sincerely believe that Mr Van Buren was cheated
out of the Presidency in 1840 by means of illegal votes,
which the money power, concentrated in the hands of
the whigs in the cities and towns, enabled them to
throw into the c mtested States.—N Y Post.

My Brush I think I will extend
To everyone in trade,
They'll look upon me as their friend,
Because I otter aid.
Besides I'll give them something new,
And that I'm sure is fair;
Tell them to paint a handsome blue
If they want co sell their ware.
Then let the Printer hare the news,
He'll spread it far anon,
Hear what he says respecting Shoes
Coin's just been getting on.
He has every size and color too,
The Price I soon will tell:
I'm sure it would astonish you,
To see bow fast they sell.
For thirty-seven cents they go,
And by the thousand too;
They always sell so very low.
At the store that's painted blue
Cain's fancy shoes are very neat—
He make's them to the measure,
And when his work is on your feet
You'll realize muchp/easure.
